She tried. Oh how she tried. CNN's Poppy Harlow tried so very very hard to get NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg to slam Trump. Poor Poppy even fed him what she considered ammo in the form of a clip of Trump criticizing NATO. So what was Stoltenberg's response? Much to Poppy's shock, Stoltenberg flipped the CNN script by praising Trump for getting NATO members to pay their fair share for that organization.

It’s a nickname for Penelope. I knew a girl whose name was Penelope, and she went by Poppy. If anyone tried to call her Penny she went ballistic.

Not necessarily. Poppy is a name in its own right, like other botanical names (Lily, Rose, Daisy, etc).
However, my first question when seeing this thread was, "What's a Poppy Harlow"?

It's not short for anything. The name is based upon the flower named Poppy, of which there are many different varieties.
