Elon Musk said that the first human patient has received a brain implant from his startup Neuralink.
In a post on X, formerly known as Twitter, Musk reported that the patient is recovering well, and the initial results of the Neuralink brain implant procedure are promising.
Neuralink's brain implant is designed to assist individuals with traumatic injuries in operating computers using their thoughts. In May, the company announced FDA approval for its first human trials. Last year, Neuralink began recruiting patients with quadriplegia due to cervical spinal cord injury or amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) for the trial.
On X, Musk revealed that Neuralink's initial product would be called Telepathy. It aims to enable "control of your phone or computer, and through them almost any device, just by thinking." Musk emphasized that the initial users of the product would be individuals who have lost the use of their limbs. He envisioned a scenario where individuals like Stephen Hawking could communicate faster than a speed typist or auctioneer.
Musk mentioned that Neuralink has achieved positive results for neuron spike detection, indicating successful recordings from the patient's brain, according to Kip Ludwig, co-director of the Wisconsin Institute for Translational Neuroengineering at the University of Wisconsin. However, Neuralink needs to demonstrate its capabilities beyond other leading companies in the field, such as Blackrock Neurotech and Synchron.

Would something like this prevent President Retard from falling up the stairs?
My guess would be that in the future these implants could serve to make the reflexes more acute, so will have to predict yes.
I saw this. George Segal in The Terminal Man.
Did not go well is an understatement.
He should stick to electric cars.
Didn’t work well for ‘the Borg’ either.
Thought it was the Bee
Mark it down. The very first cyborg was made today!
Yeah given the recalls for Tesla one has to worry what would prompt a recall of these things.
I guess that’s the Masters’ plan: We all will be assimilated. Resistance is futile.
Nah... Unusual Whales is a good follow. Their specialty is tracking public official’s hi-jinks on the stock market.
Whoa! What a horrible thought.
I wonder if they can catch on fire like his cars.
Now if he could just keep those lithium ion batteries to stop spontaneously combusting!
Finally Biden got a brain?
Many, many moons ago, I witnessed an amazing invention, development for people with spine injuries. This one patient would never walk again, but the clinic had figured out how to use the electric tens units to stimulate leg muscles to ‘work out’ on a stationary bike. The tens units were programmed to fire/activate in a certain order. The patient still had absolutely no control over using their legs; the legs looked like anyone else’s legs. Great muscle tone, no atrophy, and no brain implants.
EVs, those electric vehicles with the annoying reputation of having engines that spontaneously burst into uncontrollable flames.
They are doing great things. There’s a kid up the street that has one of those Oscar Pistorius type legs. He walks and runs without a limp.
