Article V. The Convention of States. The Founders knew that in spite of their best efforts power would tend to centralize into the District of Corruption. So they put in a peaceful process for change.
When it was really needed, such as the issue of slavery , people were too afraid to use it in time. Both sides thought the other would win so war settled the matter and the Constitution got amended that way instead.
How about we skip a bloody Second Republican-Democrat War this time around and actually use Article V?
It really says something about “democracy” that the idea of Convention of the States seems to terrify just about everyone. The fear seems to be — “If we have a Convention, and all get together to discuss, and all vote on important matters, my side might lose. I cannot tolerate the possibility that my side might lose a binding vote. Let’s have a war instead and we’ll just fight until my side wins. I hope.”
