For the second time in less than a month, senior Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Guard officers have been killed in a suspected Israeli airstrike in Damascus, Syria. Iran's unofficial Mehr news agency said, "The Revolutionary Guards' Syria intel chief, his deputy, and two other Guards members were martyred in the attack on Syria by Israel." Updated reports say that five IRGC officers, plus some of their Syrian counterparts, were killed in the attack.
The icons are already circulating.
The intelligence chief, Sadegh Omidzadeh, was a close associate of Brigadier General Sayyed Reza Mousavi, the IRGC commander in Syria, who, along with several associates, was killed in a similar manner shortly before Christmas 2023.
Saturday's attack and that in December look a lot like preparation of the battlefield for Israel opening hostilities in southern Lebanon, with a goal of gutting Hezbollah.
Under UN Security Council Resolution 1701, adopted on August 11, 2006, Hezbollah is forbidden to keep an armed presence south of the Litani River. Hezbollah violated this agreement almost as soon as it was signed. In 2017, UN Ambassador Nikki Haley conducted a very public scolding of the commander of the UN Peacekeeping force, UNIFIL, in that area over Hezbollah's infractions and UNIFIL's refusal to report or confront violations or even acknowledge that documented violations had taken place.
The targeted killings of senior IRGC officers who control Iranian intelligence and logistics support to Hezbollah and of some senior Hezbollah officers could be a first stage of the operation that would prevent Hezbollah forces from undertaking a prepared defense against Israel.

In the end, by his timidity and hubris, Jake Sullivan may end up giving Biden the expanded regional war and escalation of hostilities with Iran that he's tried to avoid.
Our general could have died in Syria. But not the one about whom they spread gossip.
We checked with sources in the Ministry of Defense and the General Staff information about the death of our military in Damascus as a result of an Israeli strike. We tell you what we managed to find out.
Firstly, our information about the death of six Russian military advisers in Damascus is confirmed. One of the dead was possibly a general, and two colonels also died. The names of the victims are not being disclosed now; the public will most likely recognize them “in a month or two.” Let us note that no one could confirm the information about the general's death for sure, but many people talk about it.
Secondly, the associates of General Ivan Popov responded to rumors about his death in Syria with the words: “Shoigu, Gerasimov and their gossips will not wait.” They did not give any other comments.
Thirdly, no one yet understands how so many of our military advisers ended up in one place. Most likely, they had a meeting with their Iranian colleagues.
The same cure applies.
Dead Hezbollah and dead election commissioners can’t function. Pretending to fight using the legal system in Lebanon or America is certainly a losing strategy.
The only to stop Hezbollah od election fraudsters is to kill them
Aaahhh...... martyred
The Iranians say the commanders were martyred.
Articles out of Israel say the Iranian commanders were neutralized.
Watching all this neutralizing of commanders where they live, Hassan Nasrallah, the secretary-general of Hezbollah, frets and worries about being neutralized as a martyr in his home in Beruit. He knows they know where he is at all times
Sounds like maybe Israel got 2 birds with one stone (IRGC guys & Russians)
Hezbollah’s stranglehold is predominantly in the South.
Lebanon has a significant Christian population. (maybe 1/4 to 1/3 of the population?) Not sure what the current numbers are.
“How much longer before this war comes to the continental USA?”
Their soldiers have already poured across the border and are waiting for the activation signals.
Maybe in October to throw the elections into chaos.
Maybe wait and see if Trump wins and then go so the current admin has an excuse to institute martial “law” and put off the January transition..
Those are Lebanese CHRISTIANS. Of course they are not a problem! Hizb and their like are SHIITES like Iran, THEY are the problem. My God Americans are ignorant, at least know who your enemies are.
Inshallah!
In 1982, the Islamic Republic of Iran established a base in the Syrian-controlled Beqaa Valley in Lebanon. From that base, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) “founded, financed, trained and equipped Hezbollah to operate as a proxy army” for Iran.[33] Some analysts believe the newly formed Islamic Republic of Iran was heavily involved in the bomb attacks on the US embassy and the marine barracks in Lebanon and that a major factor leading it to orchestrate the attacks on the barracks was America’s support for Iraq in the Iran–Iraq War and its extending of $2.5 billion in trade credit to Iraq while halting the shipments of arms to Iran.[34]
A few weeks before the bombing, Iran warned that providing armaments to Iran’s enemies would provoke retaliatory punishment.[Notes 1] On September 26, 1983, “the National Security Agency (NSA) intercepted an Iranian diplomatic communications message from the Iranian intelligence agency, the Ministry of Information and Security (MOIS),” to its ambassador, Ali Akbar Mohtashemi, in Damascus. The message directed the ambassador to “take spectacular action against the American Marines.”[35] The intercepted message, dated September 26, would not be passed to the Marines until October 26: three days after the bombing.[36]
Much of what is now public knowledge of Iranian involvement, e.g., PETN purportedly supplied by Iran, the suicide bomber’s name and nationality, etc., in the bombings was not revealed to the public until the 2003 trial, Peterson, et al v. Islamic Republic, et al.[6] Testimony by Admiral James “Ace” Lyon’s, U.S.N. (Ret), and FBI forensic explosive investigator Danny A. Defenbaugh, plus a deposition by a Hezbollah operative named Mahmoud (a pseudonym) were particularly revealing.[37]
How brilliant of you to know my friends better than I do.
Definitely NOT Christians. Modern, assimilated muslims, not a veil in sight, daughters college educated too. Actually, Lebanon is the most liberal of all Middle East countries. Which means, not fussy about veils, education for women, etc.
OK liberal Muslims. Who can flip to extremism faster than you can say Jack Rabbit. I’ve known several, Pakistanis, Iranians, Saudis.
It is true the Lebs are a different breed.
This will not end in a stalemate like 2006 did...
Israel and Lebanon (Hezbollah) are prepping for a war neither wants, but many fear it’s becoming inevitable
‘Prepare for the worst’ recommends gov’t letter due to potential crisis in the north

A document warning of an extreme war scenario in the North and recommending preparations for several days of electricity blackout circulated among Justice Ministry employees on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, the National Emergency Authority urged all government ministries to develop plans for a week-long blackout, anticipating a large-scale exercise said to occur in mid-February. Similar letters were also sent to directors of geriatric institutions.
