Texas Gov. Greg Abbott Slams NYC Mayor Eric Adams Over Laughable Lawsuit, Uses Left's Standards Against Them

Mayor Eric Adams of New York City announced a laughable lawsuit on Thursday, suing 17 different charter bus companies for $700 million. His claim? That they didn't "pay to care for" the illegal immigrants they transported to blue bastions at the behest of Gov. Greg Abbott of Texas.

(See: New York Mayor Adams Suing Bus Companies Over Expenses of Housing Illegal Immigrants)

New York City has and will continue to do our part in the asylum seeker crisis. But we can't bear the costs alone — and we won't let those complicit in @GovAbbott's scheme get away with violating our state laws. We’re seeking approximately $700 million from 17 charter bus companies that transported migrants to NYC without paying to care for them. We'll see you in court.

This is one of the most ridiculous lawsuits I've ever seen. As RedState's Ward Clark pointed out in his write-up, bus companies (or transportation companies of any kind) are not required to pay for the accommodations of their passengers once they reach their destinations. New York City is a proud "sanctuary city" and should be expected to abide by their proclamations. That means caring for illegal immigrants once they arrive.

To suggest that it is the bus companies in question that are somehow financially liable for Adams' failure to uphold the far-left values he preaches is asinine. Again, it's one of the most insane suggestions I've seen from a politician.

Abbott responded within hours, slamming Adams and turning the left's pro-illegal immigration standards against him.

NEW: TX @GovAbbott responds to NYC Mayor Eric Adams’ lawsuit against migrant bus companies used by TX, calling it “baseless” & sanctionable.

“It’s clear Mayor Adams knows nothing about the Commerce Clause of the U.S. Constitution, or about the constitutional right to travel.”

Certainly, the governor is correct that Adams is an idiot because the only other explanation is that he's filing a frivolous lawsuit for political clout. That deserves a swift rebuke from the court system, including sanctions. There is zero basis to sue charter companies for not providing housing for illegal immigrants in the cities they voluntarily chose to go to.

As Abbott notes, it is the left's standard that illegal immigrants are given legal passage into the interior, and that includes a right to move between states. Adams doesn't run a personal fiefdom. He has to abide by the right of free travel across state lines afforded in the Constitution just like any other elected official.

Democrats should make up their minds. Are they pro-illegal immigration or are they not? Because if they are, then they don't get to arbitrarily decide the consequences of such remain in Southern Texas. Adams and the like wanted an open border, and they should get it right in their backyards.

Priceless. Just priceless. The ineptness and ignorance occupying the NYC Mayors office is astounding.

That Congo miggy I just read about is upset. He said your city wasn’t what he expected. Where’s the American dream he spent $9000 for? He said you guys are treating him like a dog. That’s not very life enriching. You New Yawkers are acting like the Marthas up at the Vinyard.

You could always buy an election in America but I never knew you could by and “American dream”.

But it will cause bus companies to refuse to take illegal invaders to Sanctuary Cities, just to avoid court costs.

Sanctuary Cities don’t want these illegals.

“Are they pro-illegal immigration or are they not?”

Oh chit, that’s an easy one.

If illegals go to/stay in a red state to turn it blue that’s fine.

If they go to a blue state, tut tut, they don’t belong in our exclusive community.

Let the “little people of flyover country” house and pay for them.

No leftist has ever engaged in such lawfare.

My favorite point about all this illegal immigration.

The welfare states, you know, those who continue to give endless entitlements to illegals along with immediate freebies, are natural magnets for these illegal aliens.

So, giving them freedom to go wherever they want will eventually lead to illegals flocking to where they can get the most goodies for the least amount of effort, which is human nature.

Kind of the opposite of the intended effect, which always seemed to me was flooding “Red” states with future dem voters. They'll solidify the blue states dem margins, but that seems to just be more of the same that we currently see.

Everyday, Adams and Newsom send cards of thank you to Biden, Abbott and Desantis.

Without these buses full of illegals via Abbott and Desantis to New York and California, those places would be losing people. Thanks to those ‘wonderful’ governors, via Biden, California and New York might even gain more seats in Congress from the next census. I suspect Illinois isn’t far behind in stoping the exodus of their citizens via illegals being dropped off.

The final leg of the Illegal Immigration Invasion is via US governors, what a amazing country. Perhaps, these governors should get some award!

Except that they are NOT American citizens, and are not entitled to Constitutional rights. What does it mean to be an American citizen anymore? Mostly, it means, pay your taxes (or else!), while everyone from any 3rd world craphole can do as they please here, and YOU have to pay for it.

This is easy.

Give the illegals the little one ounce pretzel snacks like the airlines, and $5 gift cards for lodging.

Adams has no case.

Good and hard.

Don't complain when you get what you asked for.

The problem is, like all demoncrats, they expect everyone else to do the dirty work and foot the bill and when someone expects them to be responsible for their own decisions, *It's not faaaaiiiiir.*.

What losers.

$9000 can buy a nice lifestyle in some of those countries.

Stay and fix your own.

Whoever dreamed up the absurd “blame Abbot” narrative to deflect open borders from Biden is a dope. It’s companion excuse “Republicans cut border spending” is as bad. Adam’s absurd busing lawsuit raises the left’s narrative to insanity. It’s the buses fault. Nuts.

Biden’s Eagle Pass magic trick, making 1000s of illegal aliens disappear overnight, to spoil Republican’s border photo op shows the depth of Biden’s cynical deceit.

All bus companies should stop work in NYC; who knows how many illegals on board at any time? I’ll wager the city buses move hundreds of illegals every day.
