DEVELOPING STORY: There is a massive FDNY presence on New York City’s Roosevelt Island after residents reported multiple explosions, power outages and buildings shaking. Watch video from the scene below.

The Daily Mail reports that firefighters are also dealing with a number of manhole fires. That would lead investigators to suspect there was some sort of massive electrical issue.
Calls were received just before 6 a.m. for the reports at 580 Main St., which is just south of Roosevelt Island Bridge & Tram.
The New York City Emergency Management Department posted an alert on X right before 7:30 a.m., warning of road closures, mass transit disruptions and emergency personnel near Roosevelt Island.
Several tweets across the social media platform “X” reported people saying they were awoken by a loud noise, and that they felt their buildings shaking, Fox 5 in NYC reports.
“At 5:45 in the morning, we woke with what sounded like a large bang, and the whole building sort of moved in response to the bang,” Jennifer Cohen, who lives on Roosevelt Island, told WNYC. “I’ve never been through an earthquake, but it didn’t really feel like an earthquake.”
There are no reports of injuries.
NBC News reports one building was said to be shaking.

Conclusion
Beneath the 63rd Street station, it will part ways with the subway system, turning south toward Grand Central.
The original 63rd Street tunnel and 2nd Avenue Subway project partially completed, just under a century after being imagined, Q trains now run along the underutilized tracks of the only line that passes under Central Park before heading up the East Side.
