Michigan Bans Fossil Fuels [semi-satire]
Semi-News/Semi-Satire ^ | 3 December 2023 | John Semmens

Posted on 12/03/2023 8:14:06 AM PST by John Semmens

Michigan's Democrat majority legislature passed and Gov. Gretchen Whitmer (D) signed a new law that will require all electricity utilities to be 100% clean by 2040. All fossil fuels will be banned thereafter. Clean power sources include wind, solar, nuclear, and natural gas systems that can capture at least 90% of their emissions.

Whether solar and wind will ever generate enough electricity to supplant coal-fired electricity is doubtful. The problem lies in the mismatch of supply and demand. When the sun is shining and the wind is blowing there is plenty of electricity. However, at night or when breezes are light there is a shortage. Currently, coal-fired back up power can meet this shortage. Doing away with coal would require a hefty investment in batteries to store the solar and wind generated electricity. Building a wind/solar/storage electricity system would cost 10 to 20 times as much as a system with coal-fired back up power.

Whitmer dismissed the mismatch issue, saying that "I believe the pressure generated by outlawing fossil fuels will inspire scientists to invent cheaper ways to store solar and wind produced electricity. And even if I'm wrong we can still turn to nuclear or gas-fired methods for producing round-the-clock electricity."

Unfortunately, another Democrat constituency--environmentalists--are opposed to both nuclear and gas as energy sources. The International Energy Agency (IEA) has estimated that we will need to spend $3.5 trillion--the equivalent of the global oil and gas industry's entire revenues--on carbon capture to limit global warming. Greenpeace opposes nuclear power "because it is an unacceptable risk to the environment and to humanity."

Why 2040? Why not tomorrow? The U.N. Envirogoons say we have less than 7 years left to “save da planet.” Sounds to me like we won’t be around in 2040 to ban fossil fuels unless we do it right now.

Let’s see….

The folks that live away from the cities and in the country either have or are smart enough to get alternative sources of heat for their homes. Those people are the ones that probably lean to the Right.

The inner city clowns, the ones that vote for people like whittimer and commit all the fraud in the Democrat Party’s behalf, will be the ones suffering the most.

Of course, even in 2040, all their problems will still be Pres Trump’s fault.

“I believe the pressure generated by outlawing fossil fuels will inspire scientists“

So she is relying on something that does not exist. In other words the states future is dependent on a fairy tale. You can bet rat donors are going get the fat contracts to make the massive battery banks that will need constant maintenance

Well, nuclear energy I can somewhat see the appeal of, but about wind and solar? Those are great when you have 🌞sunlight and wind 💨, but when you don’t have either of those, then you’re pretty much dead in the water 💦,

So she is relying on something that does not exist.

Nailed it……This is just EV nonsense arguments being applied to something on a larger scale.

Typical EV nerd…..one day you’ll be able to drive from the coast of France, across the Bearing Straight when it freezes over, and all the way to the coast of Maine/key west, on a AA-battery. One day. I promise. One day you’ll be able to do that. John Kerry says so. So do all the toy electric car companies. One day.

This is getting so tiresome.

The people of Michigan should force her to turn the state Capitol and Governors mansion completely carbon free as an example to all.

“I believe the pressure generated by outlawing fossil fuels will inspire scientists“

Reminds me of the operation order that sent the remainder of the Imperial Japanese Fleet to Okinawa. ”Trusting in devine intervention, the Imperial Fleet will sortie to Okinawa.”

I don't think they've really thought this thru. According to my calculations, it will take approx. 25,367 wind turbines, working non stop, 24 hrs. a day, to provide the electricity necessary to power one typical automotive plant for a year.

Auto plant: 200,000 MWh/year

Wind turbine output: (21.6 KWh/day) 7,884 KWh/year

Correct me if my calculations are wrong.

John, a bit of advice. Remove the “(semi satire)” from the title of your posts.

Satire loses its punch if you know upfront that you’re reading satire.

““I believe the pressure generated by outlawing fossil fuels will inspire scientists“”

This being satire, I’m pretty sure she didn’t actually say that, but there definitely is some truth to it.

After all “necessity is the mother of invention” and man can impose man-made (in this case “woman-made”) necessities as well as nature.

And ironically, capitalism, which these same people loathe, more often than not delivers and ends up filling that “need”.

That is why they feel they can dictate their not-yet-existing preferences on us - if at all possible, capitalism will often deliver what they want.

Well they can always suspend the laws of physics. That’s what they expect car makers to do.

Wow, reading a real article on this is F**king scary.

The state has given itself complete control over everything.

Fraudulent elections have consequences.
