Big words but we will see whether his rhetoric or the words of the Turkish and Iranian leaders will lead to any serious action greater than an occasional missile or two hitting Israeli targets. Despite the degradation of American military power, there is sufficient naval power in the eastern Mediterranean for saner Turkish and Iranian leaders to realize that the cost of intervention would be too high. Also, neither Turks nor Iranians are Arab. The only way intervention would work is if Russia and China get involved. Russia is tied up in Ukraine and a Middle Eastern war would disrupt China's oil and natural gas supply. I don't think Turkey, Iran, or Hezbollah will get into the fight barring assurance that China and Russia will have their back.

Only if Xi and Putin decide that the risks of taking on the decadent Western nations are less than the rewards of knocking the U.S. and its allies into second place will the war expand. Their problem is that Communist nations are not good at offensive warfare. From Trotsky's defeat by Poland in 1920 to Stalin's failure to conquer Finland in 1940 to Putin's struggles in Ukraine, the Red Army and its Russian successor suffer from a lack of field initiative.
