When he got ZERO voice votes yesterday, I have a feeling that was a come-to-Jesus moment in his life. At that point, he just gave up.
He is very solid and I like him a lot.
However, I think everyone needs to be realistic and hope for incremental progress and for a big win or two. The budget will suck and spend far too much money (again) but shutting it all down will be difficult for him because of the GOPe types.
If I were him I would make the border the biggest fight to get a big win and hope the rest of the mess does not damage him too much. The poll numbers are killing the democrats and administration on this issue (did you see the NY polling?).
DC is broken and no man, regardless of how “conservative”, is going to easily fix this and that is especially true when he is saddled with a RINO wing and a very small majority.
The best thing to come out of this fight, which was quite necessary in my estimation, is that the grass roots now knows who they need to primary in the house races.
