I never “believed” in Santa. Always thought he was like Aunt Jemima, or a cartoon character. To the extent we celebrated Christmas with presents under a tree, it was plain the gifts came from relatives. Santa was just the brand.
I didn’t rule out unicorns until I was around five. We had plenty of horses but they never sported horns, and finally I understood they never would.
Exactly….
We also explained how and why so many other kids believed in Santa and they were not to spoil it for them. It was their friend’s parent’s place to tell them Santa wasn’t real, not theirs.
Maybe so. I knew a few JW families, and they don’t believe in celebrating children’s birthdays, either.
Or, MIL could be any denomination of Christian. Some Christians do not believe in “playing Santa.”
You are a great parent. God Bless you and your wonderful family!
May your daughter always believe in Santa!
Wait, what do you mean there is no Santa.
Tell her grandma is nuts. Bats in the attic.
Just rationalization but from the way the woman writes and as narcissistic as she sounds, I can’t say as I would blame the m-i-l.
Besides, even the name of the forum this was posted on is a red flag about what the female who wrote this screed, the OP according to the article, is like.
I think its great- we let my daughter believe in Santa for as long as possible- and helped stretch it out. She has no problems with “trust” because we let her believe in what all her other non Jewish friends believed in!!
Since the origins of “santa” is pagan, and the origins of Truth is Christianity, why not open the Bible and find out, what would Jesus do.
Why is it that anyone claiming to be Christian would condemn a parent or grandparent for telling an innocent child the Truth?
For those that try to Straddle the fence, and when that child comes of age to realize he/she has been lied to all his/her life, how should that child believe in the existence of God?
LOL- yes....if the parents are okay with it.
Who the hell are you to determine its wrong or unethical for a parent to let their kid(s) believe in Santa? The Easter Bunny? The Tooth Fairy??
Should we let the government decide what our kids should and should not believe in?? Academia?? The neighbors??
She overstepped. I would freeze her out.
********
Child at grandmother’s funeral: “Why was I never allowed to see my grandmother?”
Parent: Your grandmother was a controlling person who chose to intervene in our parenting. And we chose to not let her.
Come on, there have been numerous Christmas specials about people, particularly adults, who have lost faith and believe that Santa doesn’t exist. Had they been on their toes, they would have suggested that this might be the case, and isn’t it sad that MIL won’t be getting any more presents from Santa.
Family relationships are far too important to simply dismiss someone for telling the truth, even if it is ill-advised to do so. I can understand keeping a child away from a criminal family member, for their own safety, but this just smacks of the sort of arbitrary judgment that we all complain about the wokesters.
Do not throw the baby out with the bathwater, as they say.
A mil is 1/2800 of a circle or 1/1000 depending on the situation. why do they. wait to the last of the article to explain their off the wall use of mil?
Ditto-
Its kind of funny; lots of Freepers are up in arms about the way parents who spoke out at school board meetings, ect, in defense of their children and in defense of their desire to be the decision maker in their children’s life- rather than schools- were treated.
Yet many Freepers are doing the same thing as the schools here.
BTW- I went to Catholic school all my life. My daughter went to public grammar school then to the same Catholic HS I went to.
One of her happiest days as a freshman was when the holidays came around and everyone in the Catholic HS knew the lyrics to “Heat Mizer”...”Dad- everyone in KHS sings Heat Mizer!!! No one in FXMS knew the words!!”
Yet is you read the whole story, and if the story is true- there were problems with the MIL from the get go and the MIL did this out of spite
Worked great for us. I hadn’t realized how toxic my parents were, thought that they were normal, and that all childhood trauma was typical. My wife was right, and one of my siblings followed us “out the door” to normal.
You’ve been in Catholic school your whole life?!
Children who believe in Santa beyond age 4, say, are the ones who grow up believing in Covid jabs and global “nonprofits”.
Arlo Guthrie’s “Santa Claus wears a red suit, he’s a Communist, long hair and a white beard, must be a pacifist,,,,what’s in that pipe that he’s smoking?” Is a silly rejoinder.
