Donald Trump Says Ron DeSantis Rumored to Exit Presidential Race for Florida Senate Challenge – DeSantis Campaign Responds
Gateway Pundit ^ | Aug. 28, 2023 | Jim Hᴏft

Posted on 08/28/2023 1:13:38 PM PDT by Kazan

In a recent post on Truth Social, former President Donald Trump weighed in on the alleged dwindling prospects of Ron DeSantis’s presidential campaign.

Trump speculated that DeSantis might withdraw from the presidential race to instead challenge Rick Scott for his Senate seat in Florida.

“Rumors are strong in political circles that Ron DeSanctimonious, whose Presidential run is a shambles, and whose poll numbers have absolutely crashed, putting him 3rd and 4th in some states, will be dropping out of the Presidential race in order to run, in Florida, against Rick Scott for Senate. Now that’s an interesting one, isn’t it?” Trump posted on his Truth Social account.

The post has already ignited a firestorm of discussions across social media, drawing attention to DeSantis’ recent struggles in the polls. While DeSantis began his Presidential campaign with considerable support, recent surveys show a decline, sometimes positioning him 3rd or 4th in key states.

The Gateway Pundit has reached out to DeSantis’ campaign for a request for comment but has not received a response as of the time of this writing.

According to Newsweek, Ron DeSantis’s presidential campaign denied former President Trump’s claim that DeSantis was considering withdrawing from the 2024 election.

“Clearly, Donald Trump and his army of consultants are panicked about Ron DeSantis’ winning debate performance and the strong momentum that has followed,” Bryan Griffin, a press secretary for DeSantis’ campaign, said in a statement.

“They know this is a two-man race, and we will carry this on to a win in this presidential primary. Instead of pushing fake news from New Jersey, the Trump campaign should be focused on getting their candidate on the campaign trail in Iowa and on the debate stage before it’s too late,” he added.

On Monday, Gov. Ron DeSantis stated that responding to hurricanes in his state is more important than being on the campaign trail.

“There’s a time and a place to have political season, but then there’s a time and a place to say that this is something that’s life threatening,” DeSantis said.

Critics argued that DeSantis should devote more time to his gubernatorial responsibilities rather than a Presidential campaign they see as uncertain.

One user commented, “No kidding, we’re supposed to be impressed by this? After all he did run for the governor of Florida, damn, right he better get his butt off the campaign trail. He shouldn’t even be there to begin with.”

Another wrote, “Well, we’re sitting in Hernando County Fl and there is no water to be had anywhere. We are 1.5 days away from landfall of a Cat 3. So, he has time to campaign for president but not to do the job we hired him for. I regret being snookered by him. Fool me once…. This is Andrew2.0.”

“What a shame. Ron’s been a very good governor. Running for president was such a HUGE mistake. Like watching someone who’s been a great driver for years suddenly, and intentionally, drive his car off a cliff,” another said.

We will update this report as more information becomes available.

“These ‘Trump or Die’ fools will not do likewise if Trump isn’t the nominee, and they’ve been saying so flat-out on this forum for months now.”

BS. There are no “Trump or die” folks. There are no Only-Trumpers. There are no Trump cult worshippers. Those are just things Never-Trumpers call us when they can’t think of a good comeback.

Regarding Trump’s believing DeSantis would run against him...

Trump is a strategic thinker. I believe Trump knew from the outset when DeSantis first begged Trump to support him for Florida governor that there was a strong likelihood DeSantis would double cross him.

I have no basis in fact here, other than watching how Trump operates and seeing how powerful a manager he is.

Trump probably figured DeSantis was too much of a rookie and DeSantis would be an easy mark to defeat — which is proving true.

Your have to be able to sell the product. [DeSantis] can barely smile.

* * *

I’ll give Ted Cruz some credit on that point. Even when Trump and Cruz were going at it, Cruz could smile and engage with voters.

I'll see your BS and raise you one horseshit. For you to say this, you either spend very little time on this forum, or live in fantasyland.

Which is it?

I have to laugh when know-it-alls like you seem to be call folks like me 'Never Trumpers'. Seeing as I voted for the man twice, and have publicly stated numerous times I would again, that takes your 'Never Trumper' crap and puts it in the trash can, as well as discredits anything else you have to say.

“Ron DeSanctimonious”........that is SO presidential. SMH

Ron is 1000% more conservative than Trump. That’s why Trump, and suedo-conservative FReepers, fear him.

Trump attacks Ron for being conservative. And dopey Trump apostles applaud him for it.

Maybe you are a neverTrumper, maybe you’re not.

But all the neverTrumpers here say the same thing - that they voted for him twice and would again - but then in the same breath they trash him at every opportunity - calling him “his own worst enemy” or some such BS - and calling his true supporters fools or worshippers.

If you are a Trump supporter, support him - it’s that simple.

It is indicative of your level of unquestioning, slavish devotion to the man that you immediately view any valid criticism of Trump as "trashing him". Not healthy, alhough you're not alone there. I'm no Never-Trumper; in fact, I was one of the first on the bandwagon. The very fact you throw that insult around so quickly displays an enormous prejudice there. You need to work on that. As I stated earlier today, conservatives are supposed to do better.

I just don't think Trump's perfect, and beleieve it or not, a lot of people don't. I'm not perfect either. Neither are you.

He did much good - a damned shame it didn't last, beyond his judicial appointments. If Trump does get back into the oval office again, I look forward to seeing heads on pikes all the way down Pennsylvania Ave on day one.

“…unquestioning, slavish devotion to the man…”

There you go again.

“If Trump does get back into the oval office again, I look forward to seeing heads on pikes all the way down Pennsylvania Ave on day one.”

You and me both
