Ron DeSantis Blames President Trump for J6 Insurrection, Pledges to Stop Prosecuting Corrupt Democrats and Return to Political Civility
The Last Refuge ^ | July 18, 2023 | Sundance

Speaking in South Carolina today, presidential candidate Ron DeSantis blamed President Trump for the events of January 6, 2021, in Washington DC saying, “I think it was shown how he was in the White House and didn’t do anything while things were going on. Should he have come out more forcefully? Of course.” However, DeSantis affirmed he does not believe Trump’s transgressions amounted to criminal conduct. “But to try to criminalize that, that’s a different issue entirely,” the Florida governor noted.

Governor DeSantis then tacked to his preferred position that politicians should not be criminally targeted and promised if he was elected, he would do a more reach-across-the-decorum, saying “I think that we want to be in a situation where you don’t have one side just constantly trying to put the other side in jail.”

DeSantis pledging to return civility to the Dept of Justice comes on the same day the DOJ is about to deploy yet another indictment against the political opposition of the current administration. I’m not sure the civility DeSantis requires would be afforded by the institutions DeSantis supports. WATCH:

(New York Post – Rupert Murdoch) – […] DeSantis spoke hours after Trump disclosed, he is a target of special counsel Jack Smith’s investigation into the events surrounding the ransacking of the Capitol.

Smith has been spearheading the DOJ’s two investigations involving Trump: one into the Capitol riot and the former president’s efforts to overturn the 2020 election result, and the other into sensitive national security material kept at the former president’s Mar-a-Lago resort.

Oh, I agree that impotent outrage won’t win elections. However, it sure is making the majority of Republicans eager to elect Trump again.

That’s the issue for the Primaries next year...

No other Republican will win with Trump in the race, because of that outrage, which would/will be assuaged by him winning.

I don’t have any problems with any of the other candidates running (well, maybe Christie), but the one thing wrong will all of them is they are not Trump and they weren’t screwed over by the Deep State. I know the majority of Trump supporters think this, too.

That is why no Republican can beat him.

So you’re wrong about outrage not winning elections, because in this case outrage will at least win him the nomination.

Will he then go on to win the general election?

To me, that will be the turning point for the nation one way or the other.

Perhaps another GOP candidate could do better against Biden than Trump, but that would cement the steal of 2020. The only way to reverse it is to elect Trump.

I don’t like being called a “Trump cultist” just because I support him. People have been dismissing me with this slander for eight years now.

I have my own reasons, which are perfectly logical, to support him. But no, people like this this just want to brand me a cultist without having to hear my reasons.

To the Left, the Media and the democrats, it’s perfectly fine to dismiss me becuase I support Trump, but to be painted with the same dismissive, broad brush here Free Republic is too much.

It’s what they do on DU. Not here.

Personally I don’t think can win a general election, the entire race will be about Trump’s charges and not the disaster Biden and the Democrats are bringing to America combined with a the middle of the road suburban soccer moms and the Democrat wins

The more the race focuses on Trump the worse his chances of winning are, I hope I’m wrong

Obviously, that's their plan. But, it's hard to escape the problems Biden has caused and the impending economic downturn.

A "valid point"? You can barely spell. There is no valid point coming from you, unless it is the one on top of your head.

You Ronlims come into this thread, you weren't invited, you weren't pinged; and you begged, literally begged to be insulted and have your TDS dirty laundry dragged out for the nth time for everyone to see, as well as you repeatedly dragging down FreeRepublic -- which I will not tolerate -- and then you Ronlims turn around and complain that you were insulted and you had your TDS dirty laundry dragged out for the nth time for everyone to see!

You act the fool as the aggrieved party; and yet you only sound just like, hmm, what is that guy's name in Florida? Your hapless, fatuous, inept candidate. What a shock.

It's not just that you are a personal reflection on how bad your candidate is -- as the fish always rots from the top -- but you are an embarrassment to good Freepers and FreeRepublic and you should be bloc-banned just as the Buchananites and the Tedlims were. I enjoy telling you this. Don't say, never say, you weren't warned.

In a normal world you’d be correct but Biden won in 2020 without leaving his basement, yes I know about the fraud.

Personally I have my doubts Biden will be the nominee I could see him stepping back and someone else taking over, not Kamala but a Newsom type

As stunned as when you heard that Ted Cruz's dad killed JFK?

:0) The article is a lie.

Are you getting paid to spam FR with half-truths about President Trump?

How would you possibly know the moderators don't have issues with these articles unless they told you that after complaining about them?

Wow, what a leap of logic you've made! I know the mods don't have an issue with that freeper or the amount of articles he posts because he's still an active poster and those articles are still available on the server!

You are the perfect trump cult member. You don't think much.

Yea, the original poster's post was more in line with "When did you quit beating your wife" kind of post.

And sometimes, much as I shouldn't respond to your post here, it's feeding the Trolls.

No value in it and you DeSanctimonious Online Influencers are already doing such a fine job of destroying your reputation here on FreeRepublic, that my policy is mostly just to stay out of the way and let you do your ugliest.

The dishonesty really is amazing, and they’ll never see the issue we have with it. The quotes from DeSantis are right there in the story. We know what he meant. He’s saying there is no reason for Trump to be indicted. He decries the politicalization of federal law enforcement. Then he presents his personal opinion that Trump should have done more on J6, and they go apoplectic. It’s just so weird.

the una-party neocon blinders are off and I don’t even think that DeSantis is going to survive as governor. he just spent all of the goodwill he had earned with his covid response. I am now wondering if there is some blackmail going on. There is no way he sees this declaration as one that will do anything but destroy his Electivity

I try to be optimistic.

I hate self defeating behavior.

Last year I tried to be positive and talked about the “Red Wave” coming true, but so many defeatists here were saying things like, “After 2020, there’s never going to be another free election’, or “the Rats will cheat, we have no chance”, etc.

How many conservatives who thought this way still went out and voted, knowing it was hopeless? If many of them stayed home because it was in the bag for the democrats, could their collective votes change that?

How can I just give up on Trump? I won’t. It’s next year or never.
