Need help with moving. (Tulsa OK Area)

Hey, folks. A culmination of sad events leads me to asking for help. A few months ago my landlord asked us to move out. It wasn't an issue with the rent. We haven't been late in years. He wants us out so he can remodel the house and charge more than twice what we're paying now.

Well we fond a little house that we could afford. But after rent, deposit, pet deposit and renting a U-Haul, there wasn't enough to hire movers. No problem. My son, Andrew, said he and his roommate, Will, could move us. (My wife and I are both disabled and would be less than useless at helping with the move.)

Then came the event that has broken us all. Two weeks ago, Andrew awoke to the feeling of his heart racing. My daughter took him to the hospital and he was admitted to the Cardiac ICU. He was there for a week during which time they found him once slumped over and unresponsive. They got him back. After a week in CICU he had improved enough that he was moved to a regular room Were he was then treated for pneumonia. After 15 days in the hospital, he was allowed to come home last Thursday afternoon. They sent him home with an oxygen concentrator. He said he was still feeling pretty weak and he went to bed.

Yesterday, at abou8t 8:00 am, Andrew's roommate found him slumped over in his bed again. He was gone. He was only 42. He was my first-born. My wife, younger son, daughter and I are beside ourselves with grief. Andrew's roommate, Will, is putting up a brave face, but we can tell that he is hurting, too.

So all that to ask if there are 2 or 3 Freepers with pick-ups in the Sapulpa, OK area who might be able to help Will get us into our new place. I can't afford to pay any more than pizza and pop when everything is done. I wouldn't ask but my wife is taking this worse than any of us and she just wants to get away from the painful memories.

So sorry for your loss.

If I wasn’t hitched to a job, I’d road trip the 28 hours in a couple days and get you moved, afterwards go visit my boy down south. But I am, and I can’t.

I hope you get a local response and I hope my comment motivates others.

I would talk to the landlord tell him that you can’t get out without help and if he wants you out quickly he’ll find some help for you.

I’d love to help, but I live in Pennsylvania.

How tragically sad. Our church members pull together in similar situations. Is that possible for you?

You said you live in a house.

Once again, if you were in New Jersey, and you are renting a unit in a multi-unit house, and the owner does not occupy the other unit, landlord-tenant law restricts grounds for eviction.

If its a one unit house or a two unit house in which the landlord occupies the other unit, the restrictions mentioned don’t apply.

FYI, once again check OK law.

Yes, that’s an option. But being here now hurts my family. Just seeing his bedroom door causes tears.

Well, at least it would give you more time to decide when to leave and where to go. You may not need to consider yourself as being confined to your landlord’s timetable.

Well, like I said, I’ve already paid the rent and deposits on the new place. In fact, Will just left with his car full of small boxes and is putting them in the new house. He’s saving every last penny he has to buy a small dog run. My son had four small dachshunds and I’m not about to get rid of something he loved.

I’m in Florida ... but here’s my suggestion (I had a friend who really did this) she called a Christian nonprofit that accepted donated furniture and sold it at a thrift store. She told them her situation and offered to pay what little she had, and they moved her.
Also, prayers for you and your wife... what a horrible loss... may God comfort and hold all of you.

****pinging**** for help for acad1228’s situation...go to the top of the thread to find out what all has happened with him and his family!

Acad, I hope you find a solution to your housing situation. I’m sure others have suggested it, but try to contact different church congregations to see if maybe they have some able-bodied folks who would want to help. Church people are usually very kind and helpful.

I am so very sorry for the loss of your beloved son, Andrew. Nothing we can say can ease your pain, but I do pray that God gives you the strength and courage you need to go on day by day.

I don’t know what caused his heart to race, Up until about a year ago, he hadn’t seen a doctor in over 20 years. They said he was pre-diabetic, but other than that, he had no issues.

I suggest Nextdoor.com.

I will second what Laz said. Nextdoor is national, but there are localities in which there are many people only too willing to help. We have it in our area, but I’m in Northern Illinois.
Very good local networking.

So very sorry for all your trials.

When I moved I gave away everything. EVERYTHING. I didn’t want anything after I saw my boy killed in front of my house when he ran in to the street in a horrible accident. I only kept basic clothes and gave away everything. Leave it all behind you. And shop at a thrift store once you find a new place to live.
