After days of refusing to meet with Speaker of The House McCarthy, Biden caved and is calling for a meeting to negotiate the debt limit. On Wednesday, Republicans and McCarthy passed a bill allowing an increase in the debt ceiling, apparently surprising the White House, which was taking a stubborn stance against negotiating how to handle America’s debt. The government has a spending problem, and instead of taking care of the root and cutting spending, the Biden administration would like an open checkbook. When checks and balances were put in place, White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said Thursday, “We are not negotiating on this. We’ve been very clear on this.” On Monday, Jean-Pierre, who is unqualified to address the financial issues in America, spoke derisively about the House’s bill saying, “It’s not a plan. It’s a recipe for economic disaster. They [House Republicans] need to do their job. Congress must act,” she said. “It is their constitutional duty.”
Yet Biden refused to come to the negotiating table, likely using the incident as a publicity stunt to squeeze more money out of taxpayers. Biden falsely claimed that the Republicans were threatening to default.
On Monday afternoon, President Joe Biden finally caved after making the entire situation a spectacle. He held a press briefing and one hour later requested a meeting with House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) to negotiate the debt limit in a meeting scheduled to be held on May 9 in order to avoid default. Biden’s move contradicted his previous blustery Democrat rhetoric that they would simply refuse to negotiate. In 2011 Biden said an unwilling attitude to negotiate the debt ceiling, a “my way or the highway” position, is no way to govern…So what changed? Why did Biden take a hard-line stance against discussing a two-way solution?
While Biden and McCarthy are planning to meet and negotiate, Democrat Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer is announcing hearings on the house bill, likely as public relations stunt in an attempt to deride the proposed budget. As of now, the California Democrat is refusing to hold a vote on the bill or put together his own proposal.
A meet is irrelevant without a victory which I expect will be non-existent.
Schumer isn’t from California.
More debt...a huge win.
Joe agreeing to meet at the last minute is a victory?
He is simply waiting until the last minute so that if Republicans don’t give him everything he wants, he can blame Republicans for the shutdown.
Biden was smart to cave on this. At least to “negotiate”
I predict he wont negotiate at all, and will completely stone wall and high ball the congressional republicans, but he has to at least go for appearances sake.
The republicans hold the higher ground here. The optics for Biden of going into default without at least negotiating (or appearing to negotiate) would have been very bad for him.
No score...He’s going to tell McCarthy to shove it...and someday, when the Repubs win the Whitehouse, they can have their turn. In the meantime...sun doesn’t shine
Meeting with McCarthy does not mean that Biden will or is caving.
In fact, Biden (his bosses, really) will use the occasion to accuse republicans of refusing to work on a debt limit that meets the democrats’ targeted debt limit. It’s purely for politics that Biden is meeting with republicans. McCarthy is the one that will cave in the end.
Democrats will try to backstab you at every opportunity. That was Peelosi’s stock and trade.
It’s the first step. Now they Peter Ducey can ask “I thought you said you would not negotiate or discuss the debt limit? Now Biden has. What else have you lied about?”
Passing the bill in the house was a huge win for McCarthy as it shifted the blame to democrats and Biden.
Having a meeting is a good thing, but we have to see what the results of the meeting and any negotiations are , before we say this was a big victory.
Then the GOP needs to get on the same page and say we passed a bill that increases the debt ceiling. We are waiting for Democrats in the Senate to do the same and Joe Biden to sign it.
You haven't done nothing".

Wow, Sniffer seems to be smarter than I thought.
He probably just could not remember who Kevin McCarthy was.
Biden:
“Why should I meet with Joseph McCarthy?”
“He will just call me a communist”
Don’t believe headline.
Eventually, the budget impasse story will morph into “Women and Minorities hardest hit.” As always, 100% of it will be blamed on the Republicans.
You know how the game is played.
The best I recall was when DJT invited pelousy and scummer to the White House to discuss the budget. They figured they would gang up on him beyond closed doors. He surprised them with the press there to broadcast the negotiations. They looked like two roaches on the floor when the lights go on, scurrying for the door as quick as possible.
That line coming from THIS administration is ... well, I'm gonna need a new keyboard after that.
McCarthy got what he wanted a Whitehouse visit. Now he will appropriately bend over for Joey and Schmuster.
