"I have no interest in getting involved in some type of manufactured circus by some Soros DA," DeSantis said.
Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis has finally weighed in on the looming indictment and potential arrest of former President Donald Trump.

DeSantis' remarks are quite interesting and worth reading in full.
"So I've seen rumors swirl," DeSantis said. "I have not seen any facts yet, and so I don't know what's gonna happen. But I do know this, the Manhattan District Attorney is a Soros-funded prosecutor. And so he, like other Soros-funded prosecutors, they weaponize their office to impose a political agenda on society at the expense of the rule of law and public safety."
"He has downgraded over 50% of the felonies to misdemeanors," DeSantis continued. "He says he doesn't want to even have jail time for the vast, vast majority of crimes. And what we've seen in Manhattan is we've seen the crime rate go up and we've seen citizens become less safe."
"And so you're talking about this situation with, and look, I don't know what goes into paying hush money to a porn star to secure silence over some type of alleged affair," he added. "I just, I can't speak to that, but what I can speak to is that if you have a prosecutor who is ignoring crimes happening every single day in his jurisdiction, and he chooses to go back many, many years ago to try to use something about porn star 'hush money' payments, you know, that's an example of pursuing a political agenda and weaponizing the office.'
"And I think that that's fundamentally wrong," he remarked. "I also think it's important to point out when you're talking about these Soros-funded prosecutors, yes, they may do a high profile politicized prosecution and that's bad. But the real victims are ordinary New Yorkers, ordinary Americans, and all these different jurisdictions that they get victimized every day because of the reckless political agenda that these Soros DAs bring to their job. They ignore crime and they empower criminals. And that hurts people, hurts a lot of people every single day."
"The Soros district attorneys are a menace to society, and I'm just glad that I'm the only governor in the country that's actually removed one from office during my tenure," he noted.
DeSantis also said that his office won't be involved in a "manufactured crisis" by the Soros DA.
"We won’t be involved in this," he added. "I have no interest in getting involved in some type of manufactured circus by some Soros DA... He’s trying to do a political spectacle. He’s trying to virtue signal for his base. I’ve got real issues I got to deal with here in FL."
Trump supporters have been roasting DeSantis online about remaining silent over the potential arrest of former President Donald Trump. It will be worth watching if they believe that DeSantis spoke out strongly enough against the political prosecution over if they think he took a veiled shot at the former president.
It was an analysis, not an endorsement.
I appreciate your comment. No, I was being facetious...but you did mention that Pence had spoken out against Trump’s pending indictment. I think Pence is a complete tool, and him speaking out on this issue is, to me, meaningless with respect to any actions DeSantis should or shouldn’t take.
Did I tell you how to think or feel? I don’t recall doing that, so I’ll thank you for not putting words in my mouth. What I was getting at is that civility is supposedly one of the rules around here, and my duty as a Christian. Stating that it’s not good to reflexively try to rip the throat out of anyone who disagrees with you is not good. Simple as that
Tell me, which public leader in HISTORY of the U.S. has had to endure more abuse, more 24/7 attacks for years now, attacks from his OWN party, the entire media, foreign leaders, drug kingpins worth billions, the FBI, DOJ, CIA, Hollywood, et al?
It’s interesting that the audience enthusiastically clapped at the end of DeSantis’s statement. The whole thing had a very staged feel to it, down to the audience laughter when DeSantis worked “paying hush money to a porn star” into his response.
“Tell me, which public leader in HISTORY of the U.S. has had to endure more abuse, more 24/7 attacks for years now, attacks from his OWN party, the entire media, foreign leaders, drug kingpins worth billions, the FBI, DOJ, CIA, Hollywood, et al?”
I can’t think of any. But my point was that this a problem that goes beyond Trump and will outlast him if it’s allowed to continue. Even if you don’t like Trump, you have to speak out on this issue, because if it can be done to Trump, it can be done to anyone.
Like someone who calls people names like EverTrumpers?
I noted that as well. But Trump has thrown some at him as well and politics isn’t a Sunday social usually for Democrats. This borders on radical considering the establishments abhorrence to responding to any attacks. Only conservatives get hit by these trashy snobs.
So long Saint Desantis runs a shadow presidential campaign he is NOT being honest ...
Obviously, derision is all you have--derision, name calling, and ad hominem attacks--no argument, no truth to present.
Andrew Jackson, though several of those entities didn’t exist when he was alive, he is probably the second most hated SUCCESSFUL President... after him Nixon.
“Well, he did respond...and given DJT’s repeated insults, DeSantis’ tepid statement is not particularly surprising - and I wouldn’t have expected any more (or maybe less) from DJT if the roles were reversed.”
No, it’s not surprising, because DeSantis is a political animal. Rising above politics to denounce the politization of our justice system, in a way that is, itself, not political, is not in his nature.
As far as Trump responding in a similar way if the roles were reversed, I disagree. Trump has demonstrated an ability to rise above politics when the situation requires it. For an example, on multiple occasions he’s criticized the DNC’s unfair treatment of Bernie sanders in the 2016 primaries - despite being in political opposition to Sanders and despite Sanders’s own criticisms of Trump.
“ Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) slammed Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg's “political persecution” of former President Donald Trump as “utter and complete crap.”
“The case from the Manhattan District Attorney, if they bring an indictment and charge him, is utter and complete crap…It is flimsy. It is weak,” Cruz said on his latest Verdict podcast episode. “It has been rejected by prosecutor after prosecutor after prosecutor. And it is obviously political retribution and a political persecution.
“[Bragg] hates Donald Trump. Now he has a right to hate Donald Trump. But he doesn't have a right to abuse and corrupt the justice system to persecute his political opponents. And that, sadly, is exactly what he's doing here,” the Texas senator continued.”

Senator Cruz's clarity to the dire situation this country is facing shamed Governor DeSantis’ response.
“For an example, on multiple occasions he’s criticized the DNC’s unfair treatment of Bernie sanders in the 2016 primaries - despite being in political opposition to Sanders and despite Sanders’s own criticisms of Trump.”
We’ll just have to agree to disagree on that one. I don’t for a second think Trump gives two spits about how Bernie was being treated. I think his statements were purely politically-motivated in the hopes of capturing a few votes from those who were already disenchanted with the Dem establishment. And I don’t think there’s anything wrong with that.
If the demon rats hate Trump so much, why are they ordering their media sycophants/whoredom to unload on DeSantis every chance they get and then some?
this is not about DJT - this is about the rights of any/every American. sorry DeSantis didn’t psyche that out at the start. he let his political animus towards Trump get ahead of his usual good political instincts. that’s an X Ron.
I agree that’s pretty strong stuff. Picked it up on the very thread I used it in, and it seems unpopular. I’m full of regret, as I’m sure are the people in this forum who have called me a stooge, nevertrumper, fool, traitor, biden supporter and a*hole for expressing the views I expressed on this thread. I promise never to again use that (apparent) performative
Listen to the video. Governor DeSantis made that point crystal clear in his statement. There is an amazing amount of selective reading, selective hearing and selective interpretation going on around here.
