What does the increase in your monthly energy bill look like if you charge it every night at home? I know it depends on your provider and where you live but what would the average increase look like? And how much do you pay at a charging station?

I’m not looking to buy an EV, just curious. It’s not like energy is free when charging these things.

“Home charging: I live in a house and am happy to splurge on an at-home charger to charge my EV overnight. “

Depending on the home, he/she is looking at about $5K to upgrade the breaker panel (60 AMP breaker for Tesla), run 4 Ga wire to code, and purchase/mount the charger.

disclosure: we have owned a plug-in vehicle since 2015, and my brother just bought a Mach E and had to spend $5K to do all of the above.

Electricity is much cheaper than gas.

Works for the Motley Fool.

Low hassle Electric cars require less work. They're easier and cheaper to maintain than conventional cars.

Ahem. If/when your battery needs replacing, the cost to you would be enough to replace the engine and transmission on an ICE powered vehicle.

And if this person is concerned with environmental matters, where doe he/she think the old batteries go?

From the article: “ . . . I’m also fortunate in that I drive little . . .”

Well now that might make a bit of a difference.

I lease a 2021 Toyota Corolla Hybrid...

Metros and pajama boys who write useless articles for a living can make EVs work for them.

The rest of us not so much.

And when your battery gives out your automobile is worth nothing. You may even have to pay for recycling the battery core.

I'm also fortunate in that I drive little...

Key quote. Also, the writer makes no mention of long trips. An EV may well be the best choice for this person, but that doesn't mean they're best for everyone all the time.

If you can comfortably afford the elevated upfront cost of buying or leasing an EV...

What about the millions who can't afford that, all the ones who are living from paycheck to paycheck, and can barely afford to buy food thanks to L. G. Brandon?

” Cost declines, low-hassle maintenance, and safety perks make EVs a compelling alternative to conventional vehicles.”

This from the motley fool. A fool, to be sure.

There are no cost declines in an EV. None. They are high priced to start, and electricity prices will be going up once the elites have that monopoly on EV usage.

There are no safety perks in an EV. EVs are dangerous in a crash. Ask any fireman. They are also built very lightweight, which is never good in a crash.

Low-hassle? Ask Tesla owners waiting on parts about that. Also, ask about battery replacements. When needed, the $10,000-$25,0000 cost for replacement is a hassle.

Let’s not forget the environmental disaster that the cars create. Liberals cry about the environment but then go and buy a car that pollutes more than any vehicle ever made.

I guarantee you will be paying a user tax fee that will offset the savings. EVs will be losing their gov’t rebates, in fact does Tesla still have one?

The cars are not luxurious enough IMO.

I think Tesla seems so far ahead of the rest, esp software support, it doesn’t seem like there’s any other choice. Would anyone buy a Ford or GM EV? I think not.

This guy thinks and writes like a high school student (at best).

He wrote “...the recent $7,500 EV tax credit has dropped the total cost of EV ownership across the board.”

Nothing says “costs coming down” like increased federal subsidies that we all pay for. Liberals love to get others to pay for their toys.
