While DeSantis has not formally announced a 2024 presidential campaign, he is currently the only potential contender who has numbers even somewhat close to Trump.
There has been speculation, including from the New York Times, that Trump might switch his nickname for the governor from “Ron DeSanctimonious” to “Meatball Ron,” but Trump said that just isn’t true.
“I will never call Ron DeSanctimonious ‘Meatball’ Ron, as the Fake News is insisting I will,” Trump wrote in the post. “Even though FoxNews killing lightweight Paul Ryan is revered by him, Low Energy Jeb Bush is his hero and always at his side, his beaches and State were closed for long periods of time, his testing, testing, testing for the China Virus didn’t work out too well, and his loyalty skills are really weak, it would be totally inappropriate to use the word ‘meatball’ as a moniker for Ron!”
In another post, Trump said that it is obvious that DeSantis will try to challenge him in the Republican primary.
“All of the Fake News is reporting that I spend large amounts of my time coming up with a good ‘nickname’ for Ron DeSanctimonious, who is obviously going to give the presidential ‘thing’ a shot,” Trump wrote.
Trump also pointed to the fact that he dominating the polls when it comes to hypothetical primary matchups.

I’m a Trump supporter, but I like meatballs just fine, with sauce on Italian bread and some parmesan.
Trump still hasn’t figured out when to keep his yap shut.
C’mon Trump, quit this S##T! You don’t need to act like a moron, be PRESIDENTIAL. (or else?)
He’s not attacking Ron, he’s attacking the trolls trying to butter up to Ron and grift onto his potential campaign.
You have to understand Trump’s methology. He’s a mad scientist in a good way.
The meatballs have to be made by real Italians, preferably with thick accents and heavy facial hair. The men too.
He really has no room to be criticizing about the virus/jabs etc.
He had a part in this
Trump did a lot of good things during his first three years as President. But my reason tells me that DeSantis is the better man to try to save our republic now.
I hope that Trump doesn’t let his ego change him from a hero to a villain. That’s what happened to Benedict Arnold; that and a beautiful woman named Peggy Shippen.
President Trump - please shut your face.
Trump kept his mouth shut when Fauci spoke. He should when it comes to Florida’s governor.
> “I will never call Ron DeSanctimonious ‘Meatball’ Ron…” <
Meatball? Well Donald, by mentioning it you just did. I don’t think Trump has a racist bone in his body. But some of my Italian friends are probably going to think otherwise.
This is yet another unforced error on Trump’s part.
Don’t get me wrong. The country needs a return to the whole MAGA concept. But Trump just moved the ball in the wrong direction. Many conservatives are going to start looking for some other MAGA-ish candidate.
Ever had Pasta Putanesca? It’s to die for
I don’t see why all the Ron DeSanctimonious fans get all bent out of shape over this stuff.
We have a lot of questions Ron needs to answer, but what we know is he’s not answering them for a long while.
He’ll probably be the last to enter. That’s weak.
The 16 also rans from 2015/2016 campaign season concurs with you..
Advice:
Ignore it.
When your candidate declares, then start paying attention..
So now Trump isn't allowed to call the meatball thing fake news?
Never mind that most here on the earlier meatball thread wrongly thought it was real and Trump is telling you that it wasn't.
Shut up, Trump.
I agree, Trump has done just fine being Trump. Why does everyone seem to feel like they have to protect him from himself?
He’s shown he’s a master troller, sit back and learn!
This way the MSM cannot ignore him....even if it’s negative it keeps the narrative going.
If DeSantis has clowns like Paul Ryan and Jeb Bush in his corner, then he’s not the “better” man.
> So now Trump isn’t allowed to call the meatball thing fake news? <
Trump should absolutely be able to deny it. But by golly, do it in a way that will help you and not hurt you. As an analogy, if you’re going to deny telling a racist joke, don’t tell the joke in your denial.
Better here: “I respect Ron, and he should be proud of his Italian heritage. I would never slander him because of his heritage.”
Is that kinda wishy-washy? Well, yes. But that kind of parsing is how you win elections. And we need MAGA back, as I noted earlier.
