This week when Left member of the National Assembly Thomas Portes posed with his foot on a ball bearing the likeness of Minister of Labor Olivier Dussopt outrage from the supporters of President Emmanuel Macron amplified by the mainstream media.

A recurring theme was that his action signified a:

"call to violence"

by opponents of President Macron's pension reform scheme.

On Friday evening a majority of deputies voted to exclude Mr. Portes from the Assembly for 15 days...

The themes of mainstream media going into today's protest the notion of violent or extreme actions from pension reform opponents and the notion of a decline based on the official government number of 800,000 for last Tuesday's protests...

The Place de la Republique filled with protesters for Saturday afternoon's march in the streets of Paris by the opponents of pension reform.

Even as that big protest took place another smaller one underway as the traditional Saturday weekly Yellow Vests protest...

There are protests nationwide in France today including Marseille a large crowd in the waterfront area of the city...

In Bordeaux today a huge crowd on the streets banners fronting the protest march...

More than 14,000 people participated in this protest in Besancon near the Swiss border...

The organizers of today's protest report 2.5 million participants with the government claiming 963,000 participants...

Marine Le Pen was on Twitter as well today among other things she said:

"ther is still time to come to our senses and renounce this brutal social legislation"...

Must be nice to live in a country free enough that the citizens can conduct mass protests without facing draconian government reprisals...

Oh, wait...
One advantage (or maybe disadvantage) is that, at my age, I can remember when there was a Constitution with a First Amendment protecting “free” speech and thought...

Say what you wanted to say...
Think what you wanted to think...
Write what you wanted to write...
Love or like what you wanted to love or like...
Hate or dislike what you wanted to hate or dislike...
Interact with those people you wanted to interact with...
Be proud of the American flag and the country it represented...

Every single one of these things can now get you jailed or worse...
Just as you would have heard and been warned about if you had been at Barry Goldwater’s nominating convention...
