Smoking is has long been a contentious subject.
Years ago I was on the board of directors of a non-profit organization. Our meetings were held in a facility where smoking was permitted.
By the very nature of the organization, we had at least two factions, each with different agendas.
When it was clear that another faction had enough votes to pass an agenda item that I did not like, I would open the meeting with a motion to ban smoking during meetings.
The debate would last for the allotted time and then a point of order to close the meeting would be entered.
The meeting would end and the other side’s agenda item would never be discussed.
Watched my grandmother die in my childhood home from emphysema. She started smoking at 14 died before 60. Nasty habit and not a particularly enjoyable way to die.
Killing one’s self is a personal decision. At least with the fatties I don’t have to smell it and catch an asthma attack inhaling smoke. A fatty in a restaurant, on a plane, or bus does not fill the entire place with smoke forcing everyone to breath it in. Smoke all you want in your house or car or outside. Don’t bring it in to an area where every one else is forced to share the smoke.
I used to like the smell of beer, cigarettes and hot dogs at baseball games when I was a kid. And yes, there was a tinge of cigar smoke in there too.
This was before I enjoyed having a beer and a cigarette at a game myself.
Now, it smells more like like chili, nachos and popcorn at games.
The rituals. The coffee and cigarettes. The pipe and brandy. The smoky jazz clubs.
The women at the bars at closing time who smelled like the bottom of ashtrays.
“I guess that’s a form of endorphin chasing”
I figured it was some sort of oral thing, talking, smoking, eating.
It also destroyed lives -- LITERALLY -- and inflicted misery on many who were not nicotine addicts but were forced to live with the stench of dark-fired Kentucky burley.
I saw woman light up on a sabena airlines flight (belgium) once (1996 is my recollection). It was the first at last time I ever saw that. Flying frequently to/ from and around Europe in the late 1990’s.
Devious.
I love it.
My Cuban cigars I smoke are tax free since they are illegal!
The nanny-staters outsmarted themselves.
Btw—my father smoked cigars (like I do) and just passed away last year—at age 96.
The fearmongering is lol material for this family.
Get on an airplane coast to coast squashed in between two fatties...
After you have done that a few times you will be as fanatically anti-fat as the most ferocious anti-smokers around here.
Whatever. I hadn’t notice you gone. The fact is you didn’t read the thread and who I directed my reply to. So typical of you!
I love how you call me out while accepting post number 3. Hypocrite to the fullest! Sickening!
Yeah the one drinking alcohol gets in a car and kills a bunch of kids. You have a unique way of heroship.
Definitely, replicating the ritual, using hands and mouth. But I do think there is a reason most people aren’t constantly crunching on celery after they quit but seem to gravitate to high sugar/starch treats. I know I probably chewed 500lbs of gum the first six months after.
Freegards
Maybe so I don’t know
Agree I do the same
Didn’t fr have the smoky back room?
“Didn’t fr have the smoky back room?”
Dunno, I have never even figured out how to filter out some group posts, let alone find them.
Yep it did. It isn’t used much anymore.
I don’t know if you ever go to Florida but I have a suggested stop for you the next time. Stay in Downtown Tampa somewhere and then spend an afternoon and a couple of evenings going around Old Yber City.
That was an old downtown industrial area where the Cuban immigrants made cigars and is still such with revitalization going on. It is somewhat like wandering around in downtown New Orleans but without the high dollar restaurants. Tons of Cigar Bars with out of this world cigars and coffee bars that are Cuban style brew.
I visit there to get wonderful cigars for my brother.
