Just lost our English Jack Russell 2 day ago at only 7 due to an enlarged heart. He was allowed to sleep anywhere in the house. Such a great friend and companion our lives will not ne the same. Color me crazyโ€ฆ

Not crazy - you’re human.

Very sorry for your loss.

To each his own but it had to be more than bed sleeping— they could have kenneled the little pooch at bedtime.

Nah, I think the rescue is drumming up some attention, that’s my opinion anyhow.

Two big hound dogs here. The sleep with us until about midnight and then hit their own beds in the living room. Unless it’s cold, then it’s all night. Wouldn’t have it any other way.

I would put him in a crate where he can see me, with a bed and stuffed toy.

Outside of real viciousness, dogs can be trained and re-trained. But it can take a lot of time and effort. A lot of people don’t want that commitment - they just want the ‘accessory’ as long as it’s easy.

Actually a lot of people just want a pleasant pet. And they will put the work in to get that. But do not want to fight with an animal with intractable bad habits.

As I said, except for viciousness (which itself can be trained out, but it’s hard) dogs can be re-trained from ‘intractable’ habits. The fact that a dog WANTS to sleep with you puts you ahead of the game.

Dogs respect strong leadership, and they want to please. In turn, you just have to WANT to lead them in the way they should go and have the patience and be willing to gain the knowledge to do it right.

Having a ‘pleasant pet’ isn’t a simple ‘commodity’ you just buy at the store, nor is it easy. Any good dog you acquire was trained by somebody. The majority of domesticated canines don’t just get the way they are all on their own.

I agree. This was a pre owned pet. It had been trained I. A way that the new ow ers did not want to manage.

Yes.

If a person wants ‘guarantees’, they should go to a REPUTABLE breeder, pay though the nose, and get them.

But don’t take some wretched dog out of Rescue, not knowing what it has been through; give it a few days of feeling like it’s finally got a real home and humans of its own; and then just take it back to its cage.

That is wrong by any humane standard, unless the dog is truly vicious (in which case it probably would have been put down before you met it, anyway).

We differ. Change happens. It may not be what we would ideally like however itdoes occur.

The dog in this case was bought by a more accommodating owner.

All worked out.

“We sleep with our cats all the time.”

Twenty years ago we bought a king size bed to accommodate us and the cats. The queen bed was too crowded.

I think no matter how big the bed was, my cat Jimmy would still try to slowly push me off the edge. It’s remarkable how powerful a little cat can be when it’s on a mission...
