I ask the question in my headline in earnest.
Here’s a relative axiom, attributed in various forms to various historical figures: Never interfere with an enemy while he’s in the process of destroying himself. So, yeah — what are the Democrats thinking? They should count their lucky stars if Donald Trump wins the 2024 Republican Party presidential nomination.
With multiple polls showing Republican support for a 2024 Trump run collapsing, the former president beleaguered by key midterm losses by candidates he strongly backed, courtroom setbacks, and mindblowing unforced errors — blameable only on Trump — the Democrat Party would be wise to shut the hell up about Trump, sit back, keep their powder dry, and watch Trump’s self-immolation take its course.
And I didn’t even include Trump’s ridiculous release on Thursday of Trump Digital Trading Cards, which Trump loyalists are now gleefully declaring a success — because the NFTs sold out in 24 hours — completely missing the point of Trump’s latest P.T. Barnum-like fleece job.
So again, there’s no explanation for the Democrats’ near-frantic desire to take down Trump once and for all, other than permanent Trump Derangement Syndrome. Simply, the Democrats continue to cut off their noses to spite their Trump-hating faces by potentially giving Republican and independent voters cause to rally around Trump.
So, why am I giving solid advice to the Democrats?
Because I don’t believe Trump gives the Republicans the best shot at recapturing the White House in 2024. In fact, I’ll take it a step further: Donald Trump is the only viable (at this point, anyway) Republican in the country the Democrats could easily defeat in 2024.
While I’m thinking about it, a quick note to Trump loyalists who skewer me on a regular basis (with which I’m perfectly fine, by the way):
As anyone who regularly reads my stuff should know, I voted for Trump in 2016 and 2020 and will do so in 2024 if he wins the nomination. Why? Because Trump largely fulfilled the pledges he made prior to the 2016 presidential election, and every conservative should prefer virtually any Republican in the White House over any Democrat. That should go without saying.
And here’s the thing: I’m not suggesting that conservatives move on from MAGA initiatives and ideology. As one of my Facebook followers (a former diehard Trump loyalist) recently commented: “MAGA is bigger than any one person, including Donald Trump.” My follower was right, of course, which begs the question:
Why would Trump loyalists assist Trump in burning down the Republican party on his way out the door, if their attraction is to MAGA? Yeah, yeah, I’ve seen the rebuttals: “We should burn the GOP to the ground and start over!” Really? When? Less than two years before one of the most important presidential elections in modern history? Please explain to me how that makes sense. Spite? The big get-even? I’ll wait.
No— I’ve changed my mind: it makes zero sense.
When the GOP has a guy like Florida Governor Ron DeSantis — who I believe would destroy any 2024 Democrat nominee — as a prime alternative to Trump and the baggage he carries (self-inflicted and otherwise), it’s hard to understand why all Republicans wouldn’t knock off the internecine warfare crap, rally around DeSantis, and take it to Democrats hard — on policy issues, and the hardships continually piled on tens of millions of Americans throughout Joe Biden’s intentionally disastrous presidency.
Notice, I said “hard” to understand, not impossible to understand.
In my not-so-humble opinion, there are millions of Trump loyalists who simply can’t wrap their heads around the notion of the Republican Party — and politics in America — existing without Donald Trump.
Otherwise, I got nothin’.
I agree - it's really that simple. People don't always think or act strategically, and can be carried away by emotions into doing things that are not in their best interest.
So basically he's having a little TDS tantrum and wants to inflict it on the rest of us.
Because the hate runs so deep in them.“
I guess. It is an interesting question. Nothing means more than winning to the rats and if we are to believe what see everywhere Trump cannot win a National election so you would think they would want him. It could be they fear what he could bring out during a campaign
Bump to your reply #7. You’ve explained it perfectly.
The problem I have with the author’s analysis is his belief that DeSantis is MAGA.
He’s MAGA-lite — at best. He’s a Yale blueblood and Bushie “Please Clap” Republican who will not move the football against the Uniparty because it’s the Uniparty who is supporting and funding him.
We The People have sprinkled Trump with MAGA holy water. He’s the strongest grass roots candidate Republicans and conservatives have ever seen. Look at those rallies! And look what Trump actually achieved in office against all odds!
But De Saint the Lawyer has been anointed with precious oil from the megabucks Donors. Yet if De Saint is smart, he will not run in 2024 against Trump. If he does, his fate will be like that of Lawyer Ted Cruz, and the other 15 challengers Trump trounced in 2016.
Bring it on, Altar Boy. Putting a few illegals on an airplane to Martha’s Vineyard was not a good move. It was merely a symbolic “no comment” gesture, not the move of a man of action and fire in the belly like Trump.
When De Saint actually starts calling out people in the Deep State and Uniparty, then maybe I will start listening to him.
Oh, and please tell me, De Saint: for what reason were you awarded a Bronze Star in Iraq? What achievement as a JAG corps lawyer for the Navy Seals warranted such a medal? Did you put in a couple no-sleep nights reading legal statutes?
They are afraid of him.
If DeSantis doesn't run, who would seriously primary Pres. Trump ?
If DeSantis does run, the primaries will be brutal - and money wasting.
I'm guessing Reagan's 11th commandment would again be ignored.
At the same time, 33 Senate seats are up for election...repubs have a good chane to take back the senate...does Pres. Trump help or hurt in these races?
In response to the headline: Because they are a team with the Grand Old Party.
They want Trump out because he beat them twice. He’s dangerous to them.
They are also working hard to defeat DeSantis.
Why Are the Democrats Working so Feverishly to Deny Trump the 2024 GOP Nomination.
Because their plan they have in action now isn’t completed
NEW DEMOCRAT WORLD ORDER
So far it’s working for them.
In my opinion, I have to say with regret that the Donald Trump of year 2022 (present tense) hurts our position. Mr. Trump seems less politically focused right now and more “getting even with The Swamp” focused.
While it’s true Mitch McConnell has acted as a power broker vs a clear eyed partisan, not everything Mitch says is always wrong. The GOP is stuck with Mitch for the duration. I don’t think Trump and McConnell can work together without much mediation. Too much has been said by both men about the other.

I agree 100%. Trump is history as far as being electable again. The real question to me is whom will the ‘crats put up as a candidate in 2024? I can’t see Biden as the one.
I don’t think the Democrats (or the GOP) are too worried about Trump being re-elected.
I think they are worried that leaving him out of prison will give ideas to people who they want to keep fat, dumb, and happy while the Uniparty finishes its work of destruction.
The Dems own most of the media. They utilize federal agencies at their exclusive and biased convenience.
If Young Franken-Fetter can be dolly wheeled into office, there is no reason not to go through the theater of running Joe Biden again. Rubbing our American faces into their nonsense.
running Joe Biden again.
********
JMO but Biden will be 84 if he makes it to the next election.
Age is a factor that can’t be hidden unless kept completely
out of the spotlight.
Right....in what was supposed to have been his second term. I'll take the win.
Fixed it.
I predict that you will be voting for Trump in Nov. ‘24.
Get used to the idea.
Where else are you going to go?
