One of my favourite magic moments from Pat Buchanan's 1992 Culture War speech at Houston is where he tells the Republican convention these things about those whom Donald Trump has since called "The forgotten men and women of our country ....." :
"They are the conservatives of the heart.
They are our people.
And we need to reconnect with them.
We need to let them know we know how bad they’re hurting.
They don’t expect miracles of us, but they need to know we care."
In 1992 George W Bush wasn't able to do that well enough to retain the presidency.
In 2022 in the Australian State of Victoria, the conservative side of politics is so badly fractured and out of touch with its electorate that it has barely made a dint in the majority of a socialist left tyrant who ran the longest lockdowns in the world and is well known to be under investigation by the legal authorities in his own state whose job it is to stop corruption.
On the left of Australia's conservative side of political there are the Teals formed to take seats from the conservative Liberal Party on environmental issues. In the middle, is what's left of the Liberal Party and its slightly more conservative rural based coalition partner the Nationals. Then there are numerous altright parties: the secular libertarian free marketeers of the Liberal Democrats; the catholic Democratic Labor Party; the protestant Family First; Pauline Hanson's One Nation; Clive Palmer's United Australia Party; the Morgan C Jonas initiated Freedom Party; and more.
In my opinion, most of the conservative politicians (to whom I look for justice against a nascent PC police state that has trashed my rights and ruined my life in Australia) could learn a lot from beautiful freedom fighter Emma La Chanteuse on how to be free and connect with people.
Not to mention what they could learn from William Blake.
Freeepers/Freepers, what do you think about this?
In 1982 George W Bush wasn’t able to do that well enough to retain the presidency. …Huh?!?
The speech was given in 1992.
apologies for the mistakes you have pointed out; I will ask the moderator to correct
I am under a lot of stress in this police state
please be understanding, my friends
You can't be much of a "Freedom Fighter" if you're ignorant about history.
Methinks the lady is referring to George Herbert Walker Bush losing his second term election to William Jefferson Clinton (né Blythe III) in 1992.
Thank you Olog-hai for your prompt notification of my poor proof reading.
I am not sure if I should apologize to some of the neocons about this, but I do apologize to all Freepers, especially including any Freeper neocons.
I have asked the moderator(s) to correct.
Is your police state, worse than our police state?
I was last in Australia, during Vietnam, but I agree, they have nice women. I went, however, to the Philippines, to find a woman. Good decision on my part. 👍
As was mine, bruthuh !
The article I just read says “1992”.
Victoria was disgusting during the pandemic yet , it seems, that was just fine with the most left leaning state in the country including the supposedly right side of politics in that state. I barely saw the smallest glimpse of conservatism from the opposition in the run up to this election. The right has not learnt the lesson that unless they present a truely conservative vision and pathway towards the future in a manner which draws in young people and females they will have to wait for a dramatic failure by the left before they can take power again. In the meantime they seem to have decided to go socialist lite to try to draw those who have fallen for the climate bs but who want to have some connection with the business of the right but not it’s culture. It’s an absolute fool’s errand as they are losing true conservatives in the hope of capturing those who are already gone.
I believe the OP called the mods to fix it. But it still says “George W. Bush” . . .
Are you a Navy guy?
“Is your police state, worse than our police state?”
This is an amazing question.
The first amendment makes America a country not crippled by the culture of silence which stops discussion of any problem (let alone solutions) in Australia which is defined by what I call a Terra Nullius mentality. (If you an gain an advantage for yourself by or pretending someone else doesn’t exist and has no rights, go ahead and do it.)
There is no equivalent of Trump or DeSantis in Australia.
And there is no Aussie equivalent of Tulsi Gabbard who has evolved from a Bernie Sanders democrat into an ex-democrat who now campaigns against Biden’s tyranny for Republicans.
No, USAF. (Tagline) 🤪😆😁😂
