Chevron Could Get Approval To Ramp Up Oil Production In Venezuela

Washington could grant Chevron approval to significantly boost oil production in Venezuela as early as this weekend, if the government of Nicolas Maduro resumes talks with the opposition.

This potential would mean an easing of sanctions against Venezuela at a time when the United States is pushing for higher oil production to ease soaring prices.

Easing sanctions on Venezuela is among the only options left to the Biden administration to increase oil production. OPEC+ has refused to heed Washington’s calls for a production hike; instead, cutting production by 2 million bpd through the end of the year. Sanctions will not be eased on either Russia or Iran

Before the communists took over Venezuela, Chevron was a major producer of heavy crude.

Many of the asphalt roads in the eastern half of the USA are covered with this heavy crude oil.

I've posted before that I believe that Chevron remained in Venezuela after 100 years to be caretakers of their investment, figuring that the current Communist regime can't last forever and that one day the people of Venezuela will need their oil industry to recover the country they once had.

Wait a minute. Many years ago Al Gore said that oil harmed the Earth, and would cause polar bears to go extinct.

This is all so confusing. Now Joe Biden wants to ramp up oil production. Why does he hate the Earth? And why does he want to kill all the polar bears?

They’d be rewarded by a lifting of sanctions.

Before the communists took over Venezuela, Chevron was a major producer of heavy crude.

So the communists in Venezuela nationalized Chevron's oil holdings once already?
And now they're back for more?

...easing of sanctions against Venezuela at a time when the United States is pushing for higher oil production to ease soaring prices.

Well, it's just one Commie Government helping out another Commie Government, neither of which will deliver the oil that they were already paid for.

I remember the Good Old Days when the Soviet Union was Communist, and now it's the US Government that's the Commie Menace, how times have changed!

What most hippies don’t understand is that, if you make it difficult to drill in the US, two things happen. One, the price goes up, which means the oil companies make more money for less work. The second is that they just shift their investment dollars abroad. So foreign governments collect the royalty payments, and foreign labor collects the salaries.

Either way, big oil is fine. They have what you need, and they are good at finding more of it.

> Why do they need our permission? <

It’s because the United States thinks it’s the master of the universe. The Romans had that same kind of arrogant thinking. And we all know how that turned out.

Anyway, there was a new item out the other day that said the United States had given Bulgaria permission to buy Russian oil. I’m simply amazed by that. Evidently one sovereign country needs our permission to buy energy from another sovereign country.

“Why do they need our permission?”

Exactly right! Why the heck does Chevron need US government permission to expand production in another country?

I guess I should have read the third paragraph more closely. The reason is sanctions on Venezuela...
Easing sanctions on Venezuela is among the only options left to the Biden administration to increase oil production. OPEC+ has refused to heed Washington’s calls for a production hike; instead, cutting production by 2 million bpd through the end of the year. Sanctions will not be eased on either Russia or Iran
So our federal government if will to look the other way on human rights abuses sanctions to get a bit more oil. That is pathetic.

"... the only options left to the Biden administration to increase oil production." What a blatant LIE. It's the only option if you have put all US production expansion off limits.
