Insiders are stunned after Twitter eliminated 4,400 of its 5,500 contractors with no notice, both in the US and abroad, according to Platformer.
The contractors are not being notified. They are just losing access to Slack and email.
....Snip....
Elon Musk immediately fired Twitter CEO Parag Agrawal, CFO Ned Segal and head of Trust & Safety Legal Vijaya Gadde when he took over Twitter last month.

Amazing isn’t it? These folks get laid off/fires and the world stops rotating on its axis.
1000s lose their jobs with the big freight railroads, the folks that move stuff, and no one gives a damn
Actually is shocking because contractors are more likely to be doing actual work and cheaper to pay then employees.
Elon is a hero. He saved 1100 contractors from poverty.
To me it is kinda like when you buy a house and the builder builds a million houses all around you. HE OWNS THE LAND, he owns the business. Buy your own business if you don’t like how Elon runs his.... I am becoming so cynical in my OLD age.
“” The contractors are not being notified. They are just losing access to Slack and email.”
That’s how they were notified.
“ Elon is going ballistic on the snowflakes.”
Musk is not fully trustworthy.
He has totalitarian plans to institute Chinese like systems here.
Whether benign labor and time-saving tools or used for control is yet to be known.
I’m 100% with you on this one. I saw 15% of our workforce laid off on an annual basis from 2015-2019 in the oil industry and no one gave 2 sh1ts about it.

I don’t believe not giving notice and just turning off their access is a good way to go about this.
The contractors are not being notified. They are just losing access to Slack and email.

Slack, at least our office, is a total time waster. It seems to be little more than an electronic water-cooler gossip machine.
And contractors not being notified? They’re contractors. They can be let go without notice, pending any particulars in their contact.
Good for him.
No notice? How did they know they’d been let go then? Sounds like notice to me.
This is what Trump needs to do when he is reelected. Dump everyone thats already there
I just cannot believe that the 99% of (pre-CEO Elon Musk) Twitter censors were ever biased in their Twitter censorship activities for even one second.

Good point, or in small businesses that are forced to lay off employees because of government over-reach and regulations. I’d bet a good number of these contractors weren’t even working on actual projects, at least not ones Musk cares about.
Very common to cut off all access immediately in the IT world. In the medium sized software company I worked for, Larry, the security guard showed up with a cardboard box for your personal items and you were escorted out right then.
As far as contractors, they had contracts, not for years, but several months at a time. I’m sure if the contractors at Twitter had contracts, they were paid for the remainder that was due. If they were paid according to their contract, I don’t see any grounds to complain.
A former IT contractor, I always knew we could be gone tomorrow.
They don’t notify a contractor directly. They notify the contracting company they work for.
Exactly contractors can be gone at any moment.
