I don’t believe not giving notice and just turning off their access is a good way to go about this.

Very common to cut off all access immediately in the IT world. In the medium sized software company I worked for, Larry, the security guard showed up with a cardboard box for your personal items and you were escorted out right then.

As far as contractors, they had contracts, not for years, but several months at a time. I’m sure if the contractors at Twitter had contracts, they were paid for the remainder that was due. If they were paid according to their contract, I don’t see any grounds to complain.

One former employee provided others with a utility that would help them download and save company email in response to Musk’s taking over Twitter.

The turning off of slack and denying email access is not uncommon in tech and its done for security reasons. Who knows what software attacks they could launch to take down, poison-pill the platform if they are fired and still have access to their email or other technical resources. I think if they don’t have email, they also can’t log onto Twitter from the employee side...it’s just the article didn’t think that was important to mention? Because, it looks like security issue.

Actually in Silicon Valley employees have returned to their desk to find their keyboard missing - clear sign one is being terminated.

It may be. Probably to prevent sabotage.

“I don’t believe not giving notice and just turning off their access is a good way to go about this.”

Why? As I understand it, the contractors were a big part of the woke problem at twitter. They did much of the manual content moderation.

If you give them notice, who knows how much damage they will do with their access before they are terminated.

It’s like when Musk froze access to the company’s code. Programmers who are going to be terminated can do big damage. I’m pretty sure some of them left some bad stuff behind in the code that Musk will discover only over time.

Twitter had a bunch of self-righteous, entitled punks working for it. Getting rid of them in not easy.

It keeps people from damaging the company on the way out.
