If this is Lyman, then it would have to be viewed as a strategic defeat for Ukr. Sure they gain ground but if Ru keeps motorized forces, is able to remove vast part of army, then all they do is shorten their lines while losing a location whose strategic value declined in Sept.

My opinion is that if the ukes are thinking in terms of land. they can get the most defensable land by attacking south to melitopol. That is, I think for now further gains in the north do not serve uke strategic aims. better to shift focus to the south.
