Bill Barr appeared on Fox News today and what he had to say is already trending on Twitter. The whole interview doesn’t appear to be on YouTube yet but Justin Baragona from the Daily Beast has posted it in segments on Twitter.
First up, Barr was asked about the pending decision to appoint a special master to review the seized documents. Barr did allow that any private communications between Trump and his attorney need to be sorted out but said he mostly saw it as a “red herring” since it appears the documents have already been reviewed by the DOJ.
The next question was more basic. John Roberts asked, “Is there any legitimate reason for those materials to be in the former president’s possession?” Barr replied, “No. I can’t think of a legitimate reason why they should have been, could be taken away from the government if they’re classified.” Barr was added that he was skeptical of the claim that Trump declassified everything and added that if he did so without considering the individual documents that would be reckless.

Having been surrounded by Top Secret codewords for decades, I felt that much of the information I was aware of was soon dated, and, frankly, much of it was bullroar. What was of concern to the intelligence community was not the information itself (plausible deniability plays a role in its construction) but how the information was secured. Ever since Jimmy Carter ripped the CIA a new one with Stansfield Turner at the helm, Signals intelligence has generally replaced humint, or human intelligence gathered on the ground. And I personally would much prefer to see humint coversheets in the Trump co0llection.
Personally, I understand why such reports would be of interest to Trump. I would think that he, like other Presidents before him, is preparing an autobiography covering his time in office. And I wish him well.
Parenthetically, if on leaving government it was discovered that I had taken some of the delicious cables I can recall, I would go to jail. Thus, I envy the President because he is in the position of declassifying documents, and he can do so for his own purposes — which previous Presidents found no need to explain. Is the FBI on a witch hunt? Damned tootin. However, that patient is so diseased it is quite possible we will never learn the depth of its collective degradation.
He sure knows how to talk pretty about the Constitution and natural rights, though.

This is from Trump to Barr: Bill Barr had “no guts,” and got “no glory.” He was a weak and pathetic RINO, who was so afraid of being Impeached that he became a captive to the Radical Left Democrats - “Please, please, please don’t impeach me,” he supposedly said. Barr never fought the way he should have for Election Integrity, and so much else. He started off OK as A.G., but faded fast - Didn’t have courage or stamina. People like that will never Make America Great Again!
Now we know why Barr is going nuts today. :-)

Suppose for the sake of argument that Barr was actually -being a Bushie - a deep state FBI/DOJ controlled bitch. Just because he resigned from the AG general job doesn’t mean he resigned from being their bitch. Some jobs you can never resign from.

Since we don’t/can’t know what was in those documents and since we do know classification is frequently abused we can’t presume there was no reason to have them, especially since he possessed ultimate declassification authority until he left office.
Seem to remember a certain thread here suggesting “Trust Barr” for months and months and months.
Actually that makes sense. Logically it made no sense because Barr knows every President has done what Trump did and Barr doesn’t know which docs Trump has/had.
As a protector of the Deep State, and Washington DC cabal, I can understand it. Not to say that it is a 'legitimate' reason, but Barr was not a legitimate AG (which is why McDonnell pointed President Trump to appoint him), but lead member of the Washington DC Praetorian Guard.
Do you even GAF that NARA had to keep hounding Obama to return a portion of the 33,000,000 pages of documents he took with him in 2017? A year and a half later they were still imploring him to return the docs they had repeatedly asked for and for which they had repeatedly been ignored. I’m pretty sure there were some classified docs among that giant pile, but the FBI wasn’t sent to his home at gunpoint to search for them.
Aren’t you the least bit curious as to the motivations of the DOJ, FBI & other myriad swamp agencies when it comes to their double standard treatment of Trump?
And if he had evidence of the FBI’s complicity in attempting to destroy his presidency, why TF would you expect him to return that evidence? Is your TDS so bad that all common sense has gone out the window?
