In the last couple of years, there has been a lot of attention on the build-up of China’s People’s Liberation Army Navy (PLAN). It has undergone a major modernization effort and is now the largest naval force in the world. Just last month, the PLAN launched its third aircraft carrier – the second to be entirely indigenously built. This will allow China to flex its muscles in the Indo-Pacific region and beyond.
Likewise, there has been great speculation regarding China’s efforts to develop a capable fifth-generation fighter aircraft and a medium- to long-range stealth bomber. In very short order, Beijing has finally made the great leap forward to become a major world power.

By not sitting still.
This supersonic weapon can kill a soldier from 400 yards and only costs $.30 each!!!!!.
Very good point, and I know and agree.
If the Chinese use nukes on ANY of our forces, whether it be carriers, Navy flotillas at sea, Guam, Okinawa, etc., there will be a nuclear response.
To not respond with nukes would give the enemy the idea that we no longer will use MAD, and they may be free to nuke us more, and even win a nuclear war.
No one can. That’s the point. THEY have to calculate that.
BTW, we long ago gave up demolishing cities only. Leadership is the highest priority.
Dig your way out of thousands of tons of radioactive rubble, Mr. Xi, if you make it. Or better, think before you press go.
They really don’t have to use nukes - a kinetic mass of moderate size hitting a ship at hypersonic speed would disable the ship at the very least.
How do you hide a carrier that is in the middle of air operations? Planes landing and taking off.....
Good post.
Could be a fatal mistake for alot of good men.
That is a very poor analogy.
Then there’s the issue of battlefield tactical nukes.
True. But... Here's the problem for China.
Notice all the critical straits Chinese produced goods have to be shipped through. Oil and food come back. Every one of those checkpoints we have the ability to gain and hold, even at the same time. China's growing Navy doesn't have expeditionary, blue water forces, yet.
You can't eat iPhones, plastic ware, TVs and appliances.
Basically, they import food and export nice things everybody wants.
The USA would have a critical component disaster, to include medicines and medical supplies. However, we do have the ability to make stuff here, it's just so much cheaper to make stuff in China and ship it here.
A billion people get mighty hungry. And modern economies need oil, and China still gets most of theirs from sea.
Lastly, the Chinese do NOT have a blue water Navy, nor the ability to project power beyond 1000 miles from their coast. I've already explained the risk they take if they use ballistic missiles, with nukes or conventional warheads.
How long will last I do not know, but currently, only the US has the forces, men and materials to invade another country over sea and land. Tawain is doable for the PLA, but not if we and the Japanese intervene.
Yup.
I think battlefield nukes will always escalate to full on nuke war.
Maybe we should just premptively scuttle all of our CVNs now and use the money for more gender study scholarships.
“Weather can hide from satellites”
Does it play peekeboo?
“The Navy has been addressing how to defend carriers from nuclear attack since Bikini Atoll nuclear tests. Those were over seventy years ago. “
So? They never did find a solution.
In other news, our Navy fielded laser point-defense weapons.
“Maybe we should just premptively scuttle all of our CVNs now and use the money for more gender study scholarships”.
At the rate we’re going under the evil bastards in power, that is a probability sooner than we realize.

Russia also has ballistic missiles that can sink carriers.
Do you have a reference for that claim?
