I have considered the media our enemy for twenty years and they have only gotten worse in that time.

Lying, distorting facts, ignoring arguments from the other side, and engaging in lopsided attacks against people with opposing views isn’t being an enemy of the people?
Ari is just a DC Swamp creature who puts preservation of access to his social circles in DC above principles.

Bingo! The best you can say about George W. Bush is that he’s an idiot. And the best you can say about folks associated with George W. Bush is that they are idiots.
So the best that we can say about Fleischer is that he is an idiot. But that’s actually not so bad. Folks like Cheney and Rumsfeld were much worse.

It's very simple. The media is full of people who want to be special. To be important. To be ‘better than’ the rest of us. They relish reporting on ‘the seats of power’. They don't relish reporting on ‘public servants’. They want to hobnob. They don't want to sacrifice and to be tireless truth-seekers with a pen/typewriter/word-processor/dictation device. In short, they are little people with huge egos.
Tucker Carlson understands this, because he is part of this ‘elite journalism’ world, and eschews it. He talks with derision about the ‘intelligence’ of reporters and their sense of self-importance, because he understands how ubiquitous, ridiculous, and destructive this mind-set is.
To: Rummyfan
There would be no media if people just experienced things directly, without all the commentary.

“ What is it with these people?”
Two things:
1. They think we are stupid.
2. They hate us.
Deal with it.

I think you are correct in that. Since Watergate the tendency of the media to consider themselves a class apart has accelerated - it was always out there but balanced by a healthy sense of self-skepticism that died with those classes of university graduate journalists who had convinced themselves they were the cutting edge - the revolutionary cadre - of a new society. These traded objectivity for power, and it was a very good trade for a very long time. The problem was that the self-restraint that is a critical part of wisdom departed in the bargain. And what we were left with was not some new class alignment marching toward a socialist Utopian future, but a rigid, ideological, uncritical mass of corporate machine-worshippers who have willingly devolved into crude tribalism.
This is the origin of the very idea that "they" are superior to "us" and that we are in dire need of their leadership. They are not so much the self-styled Guardians Of Democracy as self-absorbed foot soldiers in the slog to drag their culture and their country down to something suitably malleable in pursuit of an impossible fantasy. And infuriated when their clay refuses to be molded. And searching for reasons why deeper than the salient facts that they are unworthy of the power they've grabbed and the people they're trying to mold.
