I know a lot of Italians, a few hunters among them. And I have NEVER heard of that. If it is true, it is beyond sick.

There’s a tradition in Italy where a guy hangs his hunting dogs - sometimes the death takes days - after the hunting season is over. Hunting dogs are expensive and need plenty of training to be any good. In fact it's first season is generally more play training then the dog being any help.
So this makes no sense.
