Since this country is fundamentally religiously free, as opposed to every other society in the history of the world until recent times, we have accomplished some semblance of national unity by singing the national anthem at sporting events. It is a secular cultural practice which does attempt that which our society needs, to create the minimal level of social cohesion which formerly and which elsewhere (particularly in the Islamic world) has been created through religious ritual.
Kaepernick’s innovation is brilliant from a leftist activist point of view. He essentially removed Black Americans from that symbolic ritual of national identity and pushed forward the BLM socialist conflict agenda better than anything that has been tried by anyone else. I am inclined to agree that it came from his wife. I doubt he is smart enough though he could have stumbled into it. It is simply brilliant and shows to me what our enemies are really up to.
Someone can try to tell me I read too much into it, but I really fear that we need to assess the implicit threat behind this tactic. They will not stop until it comes to blows.
