(CNN)Ashley Judd and her family wanted the world to hear from them how Naomi Judd died. The younger Judd appeared in an interview with Diane Sawyer, which aired on Thursday on "Good Morning America." She said her family had agreed that she share the cause of death of her mother. "She used a weapon," Ashley Judd said. "A firearm. So that's the piece of information we are very uncomfortable sharing."
She and her sister Wynonna Judd announced on April 30 that they had lost their mother "to the disease of mental illness." She was 76.
Ashley Judd said she and her family wanted to shed light on mental illness, explaining that it is "important to make the distinction between the loved one and the disease."
Judd said the family reluctantly shared the cause of death before it became public in some other way. She also revealed that she was the one who discovered her mother, who had been outspoken about her battle with depression, after it happened.

I had a friend that committed suicide by hanging himself a few years ago. Former Marine fighter pilot, had five kids and a pretty wife. I saw him not long before he did it and he was the same happy go lucky guy I'd always known, I never would have thought he'd do something like that.
You never know what someone's got going on in their psyche. To dismiss it as narcissism and selfishness is simplistic and naïve. Depression and mental illness are real, some people have issues that we don't know and understand.
LOL! Not like you’re the only one to ever have done that. Heck I’ve been suspended a couple times for “Learn to search”. Despite having actually done a search with no results. Oh well.
Suicide via “hanging himself” takes far more effort than taking a handful of pills. Much more traumatic for loved ones too. Very selfish way to go imo.
Living the life of a Hillary- promoting Naaaaaasty Woman took its toll. So sad for her, especially her family left behind.
She looks lefty these days. She will end up ugly and hideous.

After my sister-in-law’s death by hanging in 1984 I read all kids of articles on suicide. I read that the messier and horrific suicides are the ones by those who are angry at the ones left behind and wanted to leave them a mess to clean up. I know that my sister-in-law had many issues with her parents.
Actually, one of the main reasons is physical health problems. It can be a medical issue that is known and difficult to cope with or an undiagnosed problem that causes pain/disruption of life.
There’s likely a lot of truth to that.

Long story but decades ago I saw a beautiful woman who did that with a shotgun in the mouth. There was no ambiguity in the result.
In another case, a man up the street shot himself twice in the abdomen...with a pump shotgun.

Don't get me wrong, the majority of the people who shoot themselves, do die. But not all... I would guess more than 10% are not successful, and many of those survive horrific wounds.

Really good friend of ours lived an alternate lifestyle. He broke up with his significant other and went thru heavy depression. A year or two went by and he rekindled a friendship with his ex and house sitted for him while he and his new lover were in Hawaii. He went into his exes car in the garage and started it, took a bottle of sleeping pills and then shot himself.
The tragedy of it all was this was his mother’s third son to take their life. He knew what the first two did to his mother but he couldn’t help himself. Very sad.
Actually, I was trying to carefully highlight one specific type of suicide.
People who are physically sick, or very old, or younger than 25, all commit suicide for much different reasons than adults in good health.
As far as I know, Naomi Judd was in good physical health.

Public has a right to know about true cause of death

the Public has no right to know what a possible note might reveal.
Actually, she had long term health problems. In particular hepatitis that she contracted while working as a nurse early in her career. She talked about how it affected her life- was always tired, had to manage it, etc. Sometimes, it just becomes too much to deal with abd she had dealt with it her whole adult life.
