What’s really driving this proposal is not substantive policy considerations, but the senator's deeply ingrained propensity toward class warfare and envy.
High gas prices and runaway price inflation more broadly are top-of-mind for many Americans right now.
As a result, progressive politicians are feeling the squeeze to explain why the federal government’s money printing and deficit spending aren’t to blame. And if Bernie Sanders’ latest radical proposal is anything to go by, some of them are getting pretty desperate.
The Vermont senator just unveiled a proposal for a 95 percent tax—yes, 95 percent!—on business profits above their pre-pandemic levels. This comes as part of his larger attempt to blame corporate greed and “price-gouging” for inflation.
“The American people are sick and tired of being ripped-off by corporations making record profits, while working families pay absurd prices for gas, rent and food,” Sanders said in a tweet alongside the news. “The time has come for Congress to work for working families and demand that big corporations pay their fair share.”

He’s as senile as Bidet.
Businesses don’t pay taxes. When you pass a law that claims to tax a business, you are merely requiring them to COLLECT taxes from the consumers who purchase their products or services. Bernie knows this, but the socialist idiots who vote for him don’t. They think Bernie is “sticking it to the rich”.
Bernie Sanders is an 80 year old, 19th century secular jewish marxist, living in the 21st century.
And people accuse conservatives of being “behind the times...”
The proggies are getting lazy and quoting Atlas Shrugged again.
Seems to be a very rational and logical tax on socialists.
If Bernie had his way, there would only be one state approved deodorant made. Afterall why does the US need 23 different brands.
Not that that smelly old hippie commie has probably ever used any to begin with
He can go to hell on the business tax. As far as a tax on billionaires - I say let the billionaires fight that battle, as far as I’m concerned, they’re our enemies...so they I won’t be carrying any water for them.
This government no longer serves the people.
All corporate taxes should be zero.
Brillianr idea, start with Pfizer and Moderna, then Microsoft, Apple, Google, Zoom, Doordash, Uber Eats, all those companies making masks, UPS, Fedex, and Amazon.
Then wait a bit and see what happens when the next crazy thing happens. Think anyone is going to work around the clock to respond to a crisis when you get punished for it by some elderly crank?
I think we should tax politicians 95% of all the wealth they have amassed above what they were making before being elected.
Or above their congressional salary.
Absurd indeed, yet by making such an absurd proposal, he set the stage where say a 10% excess profit tax would seem reasonable in comparison. Bait and switch.
There is no greed anywhere close to government greed. Governments are the most rapacious greediest plunderers know to man.
How about politicians only getting one term in office and on benefits after that?
Bernie....give 95% of all your riches to charity now.
They are replaced by new Marxists.............
Let me tell you how it will be...
There’s one for you, nineteen for me,
cuz I’m the Taxman!
"How about politicians only getting one term in office~"
Would you like me to pay more, or less?
And business's do pay taxes...and if the tax becomes too much they go out of business...when no one will pay the price of their goods.
if 5% is too small, I’ll just take it all
