So many unintended consequences/disasters, so little time.

A study was required? Sheesh. Just dust off the generic report:
"Automation of X will lead to Y millions of jobs lost."
I was just marveling at the automated garbage trucks in our neighborhood. When I was a kid, there was a driver and TWO guys in the back emptying the cans into the truck. They used to ride along on the back of the truck.

Then the trucks got giant mashers to compress the trash so fewer trips were required to the dump.

Then the robotic arms were added to the side and they were down to one operator / driver.

Then the greenies put out multiple bins and put homeowners to work sorting their trash. That now required THREE trucks, one for trash, one for yard waste, and one for recyclables.

So we went from three guys collecting trash to a lot of automation and back to three guys collecting everything (but now all drivers).

It's the way of life.

In my next life, I want to be a tort attorney filing many, mnay class action suits.

Unless the Democrats and RINOs pass legislation like the "vaccine" shielding laws to protect the programmers from liability when their products kill. As they will.

Automated long-haul trucking will never happen in my lifetime, and likely not in the lifetimes of my adult children.

Long-haul automated driver assist, yes. Fully automated, driverless long-haul trucking? Absolutely not.

Not unemployed for long...

A few thousand horrific accidents & deaths will curtail that absurd automated-trucking notion...

How about we automate Congress? I'm serious. It will eliminate the focus on illogical decisions. Like yesterday Biden signing the "No lynching" bill. Wow, I was unaware lynching was legal. Thank God Congress made it illegal.

Of the bill professional psychopath Nancy Pelosi said:

"Today, I was proud to join @POTUS for the signing of the Emmett Till Antilynching Act. With his signature, lynching is finally designated as a federal hate crime — a long-overdue action to correct an historic injustice and build a safer future our all our children."

Safer future for the children? Right now where I live, children are being hacked to death once again by MS-13 gangs in the country illegally from El Salvador. I don't see any bills requiring the border be closed.

Wouldn’t it be easier to build a rail line or several, and put these things called diesel/electric locomotives on tracks and have just a few operators/drivers/brakemen/engineers?

Let me tell you what would happen:

A new easy crime will evolve: automated truck hijacking. A group of thieves with 3 vehicles among them simply gets on the sides and in front of the truck and slow down and then stop. The truck will do the same. Then just steal the cargo. Easy peasy.

Just my guess from what is required in a manufacturing environment. We have automated equipment which is routinely calibrated.

However for each lot there has to be a human to sign off that all procedures were followed and the output is in specification. Should something not be correct the machine is shut off and corrections made, then another sign off.

The same thing goes for the automated warehouse. Someone has to be there to sign off on the shipping request and sign for FedEx or UPS.

Make an automated truck, that is fine. But there may well have to be a human who can take over if there is a problem. Just like a machinist shuts down a lathe or a warehouse worker stops a conveyor if it is not working correctly.

Not just truckers, but travel centers, greasy spoon diners, and truckstop hookers.

Will the “self-driving” programs be able to back up a truck to a loading dock without destroying the dock and the truck? Will they scoot the truck off to a service station when fuel gets low?

Drivers will be needed for the foreseeable future.

This country isn’t anywhere near having fully automated long-haul trucks on the road. These articles are usually written by ignorant and/or delusional people who have no idea what they’re talking about.
