I was waiting for a Zoom call to start the other day when a couple of women started discussing their student loan debt and how they hoped theirs would be canceled. One of them instructed the others on how to file for debt forgiveness, and told them her $35,000 debt had just been written off in consideration of her “service employment.” They all work for a non-profit, which is apparently considered “service.” This was the first I had heard about such a program.
