Mercola recommended inhaling hydrogen peroxide to prevent and cure for COVID. He also claims palm oil causes cancer.
Are you sure he’s a credible source for medical advice?

“Mercola recommended inhaling hydrogen peroxide to prevent and cure for COVID.”

That’s interesting. Mom has been doing that and I wondered where she got the idea. There might be something to it. She’s 97, goes everywhere mask-less, and does everything she wants to. No Covid.

D.D. Palm oil. Dr. Mercola is not alone.

“A recent study published in the journal Nature wanted to understand the effects that consuming fatty acids like oleic, linoleic, and palmitic acid could have on mouth and skin cancer cells in mice. Both oleic and linoleic acid are found in omega-6 and 9 packed foods including flax seeds and olive oil. As for the palmitic acid, researchers fed the mice a short term diet rich in palm oil (a type of vegetable oil) to measure the fatty acid’s effects on cancer cells.

The study authors revealed that the diets including linoleic and oleic acid didn’t lead to a greater likelihood of developing cancer. Whereas, the palm oil diet caused mice to be at a higher risk of the disease. Researchers claim that this is due to the palmitic acid in the oil promoting metastasis, which is when cancer cells break away from the primary tumor and spread throughout the body. This led them to warn about this risk when consuming palm oil regularly. “

Hydrogen peroxide is a reactive chemical mainly used for bleaching, as a disinfectant, and as a general oxidizing agent. The aim of this study was to investigate subtle acute effects of inhaled hydrogen peroxide vapors. Eleven healthy volunteers were exposed to 0 (clean air), 0.5 and 2.2 ppm for 2h at rest. Symptoms related to irritation and central nervous system effects were rated with Visual Analog Scales. The ratings varied considerably but were generally low and with no significant differences between exposure conditions, although the ratings of smell (p=0.09, Friedman’s test), nasal irritation (p=0.06) and throat irritation (p=0.06) showed borderline tendencies to increase at 2.2 but not at 0 and 0.5 ppm. Nasal airway resistance increased after exposure to 2.2 ppm hydrogen peroxide (p=0.04, paired t-test) but not after 0.5 ppm. No exposure-related effects on pulmonary function, nasal swelling, breathing frequency and blinking frequency were detected. Furthermore, no clear effects were seen on markers of inflammation and coagulation (interleukin-6, C-reactive protein, serum amyloid A, fibrinogen, factor VIII, von Willebrand factor and Clara cell protein in plasma). In conclusion, our study suggests that hydrogen peroxide is slightly irritating at 2.2 ppm, but not at 0.5 ppm.

6. Conclusions

Hydrogen peroxide is a widely used, highly accessible, and available chemical compound whose efficacy has been demonstrated on several human viruses, including coronavirus and influenza viruses [32]. It is possible that hydrogen peroxide, by diverse routes of administration and mechanisms of action, could exhibit a therapeutic and/or prophylactic effect against SARS-CoV-2.

The concentrations of H2O2 that we used for mouth rinses, for enteral administration, and for nebulized application are safe, as no serious side effects were reported in either of the three modalities of administration.

Research is needed to determine the full potential of complementary and alternative therapies such as those with hydrogen peroxide, for use in prophylaxis and treatment against COVID-19.

We strongly encourage the rapid development of randomized controlled trials to study the benefits of oral (enteral), mouth and nasal rinse, and vaporized applications of hydrogen peroxide against SARS-CoV-2, in singular use or therapeutic combinations.

Although further clinical studies are required to evaluate the safety and efficacy of antiseptic mouthwashes against SARS-CoV-2, the prophylactic application represents a promise for widespread uses among the general population, especially the vulnerable and highly exposed groups.

Here are Drs Mercola and Levy discussing nebulizing with dilute Hydrogen Peroxide and saline.

The Washington Post agrees with you regarding Hydrogen Peroxide.

They love the word misinformation don’t they? It can’t be a disagreement of opinon.

Dr Andrew Weil does not like the use of something like 35% Hydrogen Peroxide.

Diluted can be used for sore throats.
