I guess I should have said I think it’s stupid to replace a day honoring Columbus for something called “Indigenous People’s Day”. I don’t have a problem with a day for indigenous people, just not in place of early American Founders and heroes like Christopher Columbus.

Iowa: Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds proclamation in 2018 Designate Columbus Day as Indigenous Day..

Self hating Republicans are worse than Democrats. Reason being is they deceitfully campaign as conservatives to get into power then they systematically support every leftist cause…

It’s in some ways a difficult subject. There are traditions and values in all cultures which deserve to be understood & shared. There does not need to be a day for any of them. Having a recognition day is a liberal feel good practice which is used to deflect from how those groups are disrespected 364 days a year by Liberals.
I see Liberals as trying to glom onto Native Americans to broaden their base using a patently false pretend sympathy & respect. The 1619 project with the attempt to cast European Americans as slavers and distort the realities of the time is disingenuous and self serving, frankly IMO evil. It is amusing to see those same Liberals ignoring the similar Native American practices from the same time so that they can court Native American votes.

As a 3rd-gen Sicilian, I agree. All clowns who hate what Italians did for this country should feed themselves buckshot.

What a disrespectful name, “Indigenous”. I thought the point was to play up cultural heritage. Do American Indians want to celebrate being “Indigenous?”. No, if I were them, I would indignant about indigenous.

There’s a good reason the liberal northeast States (except Vermont and Maine) are not changing the Columbus Day name.

Have you ever seen Bernie Sanders attend a Little Italy event?

...Indigenous Peoples' Day...

Yes, we must celebrate and commemorate twenty-thousand years of incessant tribal warfare, slavery, torture, human sacrifice, and a deep cultural and artistic heritage.

On the other hand, the Mayans were very good astronomers and they and the Aztecs and Incas were quite good builders.

What else should they be remembered for?

It doesn’t. It conservatives were smart a decade ago when the whispers of what Columbus did was getting attention, we should have changed it to Italian heritage day. But we’re to set in our ways as a whole.

So you believe in surrender or perhaps The Revolution?

I wouldn’t say they were good astronomers....their calendar was very flawed

They could foretell eclipses but so could many fairly primitive peoples

They were relatively speaking decent builders and progressed past lodge houses and nomadic dwellings into urban centers..

The Aztecs I think had a 150,000 man city where Mexico City now stands...

It’s a mixed bag Amerindian accomplishments

I’m not sure what held them back

Religion is a big one....

And lack of essential tools and written phonetic alphabet

All cultures are simply not equal

All have high and low ebbs though..

Columbus discovered a land that was already discovered. All he did was open the the door for the European conquest. The Viking colonies were there about 500 yrs earlier. Too bad the natives here didn’t like the milk they were given. The Vikings had to leave, their welcome was rescinded due to lactose intolerance. Columbus was financed by the gold greedy, Royalty and Church. And so the conquest began. Why do we consider it a holiday? He landed on an Island in the Caribbean not the main land. Let the Island celebrate it.

It would seem that the right thing to do would be for all woke folk of European descent to leave America. Also, Americans of African descent need to leave because they would not be here if it were not for Columbus' discovery. After all, Columbus is responsible for initiating European immigration to the Americas. In other words, wolk folk of European and African descent would not be here if it weren’t for Columbus' discovery of the New World! On second thought, all humans and invasive species from other continents need to leave America so only so-called indigenous people, animals and plants remain. Thinking this through a bit further -- if we go back far enough in time, we learn that no one is "indigenous" - except for Adam and Eve. Man, being the bi-pedal creature he is, likes to discover and move about. Hummmm!!! /s/

The indigenae were the people already living in Italy when Aeneas and the Trojans arrived. So Indigenous Peoples' Day is honoring the Italians after all.

Not to mention the wars between the indigenous tribes among themselves.
