I notice that in Britain, when a public servant FAILS, they usually resign quickly. An example was Prime Minister Anthony Eden soon after the Suez Crisis which turned into a debacle. Unfortunately, public servants in the USA are much more reluctant to resign although everyone associated with the Afghanistan withdrawal debacle needs to GO.

I wonder how much if that is the difference between our system of fixed terms and election dates causing our officials to hope to run out the clock, while in the British system the government can fall and a new election called immediately if the scandal is bad enough.
