During a press conference, Marine Corps Gen. Kenneth F. McKenzie said that the United States “shares a common purpose” with the Taliban terrorists, admitting they are “useful to work with.”
McKenzie was asked about staying after the August 31 deadline, the date agreed upon to withdraw all the troops, American civilians, and U.S. Afghan allies. He was concerned about threats since the military and the Taliban have been coordinating on various things.
The Marine Corps General said, “As to whether or not I trust them, that’s not necessarily a word I’d use very carefully,” adding “it’s not what they say. It’s what they do.” He went on:
[The jihadist organization] have a practical reason for wanting us to get out of here by the 31st of August. They want to reclaim the airfield. We want to get out by then, too, if it’s possible to do so. So, we share a common purpose. As long as we kept that common purpose aligned, they’ve been useful to work with.
However, while the Biden administration wants to get out of Afghanistan as soon as possible, many Americans will reportedly be left behind along with the U.S. Afghan allies.
‘[The Taliban have] cut some of our security concerns down, and they’ve been useful to work with going forward,” McKenzie continued.
He mentioned that he would continue the mission despite the loss of life since he was expecting someone to relate.
Reports have also shown that two suicide bombings outside Kabul airport killed at least 40 people, including 12 U.S. military personnel wounded another 120 people on Thursday.
In addition to the thousands of Americans still in the country, reports show there are 4,400 U.S. citizens and their families have been evacuated from Afghanistan.

This is the wrinkle that reveals the apparent contradiction of biden continuing a trump policy (leaving afghanistan) when he reverse all others.
Even though he keeps the stated goal, he actually did reverse the policy by handing it to the taliban and screwing the afghan gov (such as it was) we supported.
What with the government we now have that has taken control, I don’t doubt this for a minute.

The Trump agreement that Biden is touting said that the Taliban were to have a power sharing agreement with the afghan government.
The Taliban have broken that agreement and their militant ally - ISIS has attacked us without one word of condemnation by “our Taliban allies”

At an earlier point, the military command got a phone call from a political operative in the WH who said essentially, "Ok, this is how the President wants to do this...(vacate Bagram and leave the country. etc.)" The command saluted their CinC and replied, "Yes Sir"!
Just recently, Burns, the head of the CIA and a political appointee, got a phone call from someone in the WH and was told, "The President wants you personally to go to Kabul and offer the following..." Later, Burns cut the deal with the Taliban, not this USMC General!
Even before all that, State was almost certainly told by some political operative in the WH, "Leave our technical equipment and work product (names and addresses of Afghan allies, etc.) and just walk out, the Afghans will use it after we leave."
This is why Stalin purged his military....

Our officer corp isn’t worth a bucket of goat snot at this point. If we can work with the Taliban then why have we been killing each other for 20 years, WTH! If we get in a real shooting war with a major power maybe the officers can be knocked off first so the NCO’s can give us a fighting chance.
And for that, I think we should go balls to the wall and treat them the same. We ought not be handcuffed by some "agreement" with the Taliban that costs us U.S. lives and injuries.
We know who was at that CIA meeting and precisely where to find them and their "people".
Of course, this USMC General is not in a position to make that call.

Useful because we can use them to empty gitmo into Afghanistan. They will be useful to aide Obamas plan. Now Obama and Biden can say they were forced to negotiate gitmo terrorists with americans in Afghanistan. Before, it was hard to empty gitmo.
