Har­ris says she had key role in Biden’s Afghanistan with­draw­al decision

The vice pres­i­dent con­firmed she was the last per­son in the room before Biden made the deci­sion to move for­ward with with­draw­ing U.S. troops.

Vice Pres­i­dent Kamala Har­ris con­firmed Sun­day that she was the last per­son in the room before Pres­i­dent Joe Biden made the deci­sion to pull all U.S. troops out of Afghanistan.

In an inter­view with CNN’s Dana Bash on “State of the Union,” Har­ris was asked about being the last per­son in the room regard­ing major deci­sions, some­thing that Biden has said is impor­tant to him in his work­ing rela­tion­ship with the vice pres­i­dent. Har­ris con­firmed that was the case regard­ing the move to pull U.S. troops out of Afghanistan by Sept. 11.

The deci­sion to pull all U.S. troops out of Afghanistan was announced ear­li­er this month. Amer­i­can troops have been in Afghanistan since Octo­ber 2001, when the U.S. invad­ed in response to the 9/11 attacks the pre­vi­ous month.

“This is a pres­i­dent who has an extra­or­di­nary amount of courage,” she said, regard­ing the deci­sion. “He is some­one, who I have seen over and over again, make deci­sions based on what he tru­ly believes … is the right thing to do.”

Har­ris said that Biden “is acute­ly aware that it may not be polit­i­cal­ly pop­u­lar, or advan­ta­geous for him per­son­al­ly; it’s real­ly some­thing to see.”

“I have seen him over and over again make deci­sions based exact­ly on what he believes is right,” she noted.

My preferred sequence of events:

Kamala invokes the 25th Amendment and Biden is removed (before Halloween).

Dems lose the Senate majority and Harris is unable to seat a Veep.

Impeachment proceedings against Kamala begin by Jan. 1st 2022.

Pelosi is sworn in by 1 Jun. 2022 and is also unable to get a Veep seated.

GOP retakes the Senate and House in Nov. 2022.

Impeachment proceedings against Pelosi begin by Jan. 1st 2023.

By 1 Apr. 2023 the GOP Speaker is sworn in as Prez. (not necessarily McCarthy)

Trump runs and wins in 2024.

They have to get Biden to resign if they want a new V.P. Having Kamala as "Acting President" thanks to the 25th amendment would mean that Biden was still the President, just unable to act.

Kamala will probably screw things up just as much as Biden but the advantage from the standpoint of the Democratic Party is that anyone who criticized her would be attacked as a racist. But not sure how that "boy who cried wolf" routine would be effective.

It wouldn’t be hard for Kamala to find someone who could get one or two Republican Senators to vote for, even if that person was awful from our perspective. Pick a woman and Murkowski and Collins would be sure to vote for her. Pick a black person and probably several Republicans would vote for him or her (unless it is someone like Maxine Waters) out of fear of being called racists.

There is nothing in the 25th amendment about an Acting President getting to select a Vice President. If Kamala becomes President, there will be a new VP soon anyway...no one wants Pelosi as next in line.
