‘COVID-19 is now more contagious than the common cold or flu.’ Delta variant makes up virtually all coronavirus cases

Nearly 100% of the coronavirus samples analyzed in Ohio in late July showed the highly contagious delta variant, Ohio Department of Health Chief Medical Officer Dr. Bruce Vanderhoff said Thursday morning.

“COVID-19 is now more contagious than the common cold or flu,” he said.

In addition to being more contagious, evidence suggests that the viral load in patients in the early days with the delta variant is higher than when people were sick with other variants. Patients are getting sicker, faster, Vanderhoff said during his first press conference since Gov. Mike DeWine appointed him to be the department’s head, beginning Monday.

Nevertheless, the coronavirus vaccine continues to offer strong protection against the delta variant, Vanderhoff said.

Hospitalizations, intensive-care unit admissions and use of ventilators are on the rise as well. Over 98% of people who have been hospitalized with COVID-19 are those who have not been fully vaccinated, which means two weeks after the final shot, he said.....

Hmm. It seems to me that back before the new normal when colds went around in a office or at school, they really went around.

I knew far more people who got colds than who got Covid.

We are knee-deep in herd immunity now.

Is there a test for the Delta variant?

From my understanding, the only way to confirm one variant over another is to do a full gene sequence on the sample. Sequencing is expensive (hundreds if not thousands per sample) and very few machines are available to run the sequence.

Soooo, they run a few samples and then extrapolate from there. They likely do not have enough information to confidently say %’s.

I remember being told a year and a half ago that Covid 1 was the most contagious disease in the history of the planet. We were wiping down packages because the virus could live on surfaces for days and that a single viron could kill you in a week.

I bet a LARGE number of those infected are the 1.5 million illegal immigrants from 100 countries. Finally, 1 doctor from Texas stated so. Others will follow.

Is there a test for the Delta variant?

From the interwebs:

To detect the delta variant, a specific type of COVID-19 test is required — genomic sequencing. Genomic sequencing decodes the coronavirus' complete set of genes and searches for new mutations. It also matches known variants. Labs at some state and local health departments have access to genomic sequencing.

If it this contagious it should (I hope and pray) burn itself out.

It would also seem that possibly it is less serious than the prior variants and the increase in hospitalizations is from volume of people getting infected but an overall small percentage of the infected are getting severe symptoms.

And we know the variant because they are processing all the samples?

No, there is not. It’s based on the sampling of those taken and fully sequenced.

“No there is no test for Delta. Go figure?” [/br]
If it is not same as standard covid how do they think the 5 different serums can work? Also what about the booster jabs?
If a person has not had any, how do they get updated to “jab 3.0”. I call BS.

I doubt it seriously. I doubt that they performed gene sequencing to prove it. They just announced that it was the variant and everyone is to take their word for it.

Where were all of the virus samples tested to determine they were the "Delta Variant"?

The simple fact is the genetic testing necessary to differentiate the "Delta variant" from typical Covid, is expensive and not widely available.

When you hear wild claims about how wide spread the "Delta variant" is, you can be sure THEY ARE LYING TO YOU AGAIN!!!
