However, the Department of Justice (DoJ) conducted a study in 2004 that concluded that such a ban actually did little to reduce gun violence.
“Should it be renewed, the ban’s effects on gun violence are likely to be small at best and perhaps too small for reliable measurement,” the study concluded.
However, the bill has already earned support from several gun control organizations including the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence; Giffords Law Center to Prevent Gun Violence; Everytown; March for Our Lives; Change The Ref; Coalition to Stop Gun Violence; Center for American Progress and Violence Policy Center; Orange Ribbons for Gun Safety.
“High capacity magazines are the common denominator in the deadliest mass shootings in modern American history,” said Brady President Kris Brown in a statement. “Whether coupled with a handgun or an assault rifle, high capacity magazines increase the lethality of every shooting and it is long past time that we limit how many times a trigger can be pulled before a shooter needs to reload. The Keep America Safe Act will keep these instruments of war off our streets and help to eliminate this threat to public safety and law enforcement. Brady thanks Rep. Deutch for introducing this common-sense and important bill.”

Maybe they would prefer belt-fed....
I am sure I break many laws every day that I did not even know existed. democrats criminalize life as a way to control and keep people in fear.
Never forget it is the democrat party voter who is to blame.
Articles like this frustrate me, Liberals don’t really care if their gun control ideas work or not, they care about advancing to the end goal of total gun confiscation.....
Example I read here yesterday the NJ governor proposed banning 50 caliber ammunition, how many people in NJ in the last 10 years have been killed with a gun using 50 caliber ammunition, the answer is probably ZERO or certainly almost ZERO...which means it’s not about reducing violence it’s about chipping away to the point nothing is left....
Yeah banning 50 cal was just dumb. Guess it was to powerful for anyone to own.
We need to drive the conversation back to: what right does the government - a group of people, not gods - have to punish individuals preemptively for mere possession of something over the potential of an action there is no reason to think that individual will commit?
Bill Clinton’s 10 round magazine law as part of his “Assault Weapons Ban” had one effect: The return of interest in larger caliber handguns such as the .45 ACP and 10mm.
it’s like owning a 50 caliber rifle, my question is WHY ??
The cost a ton, their ammunition costs a ton and you will have a difficult time finding a place to fire one...
Especially when I could get several weapons of different types and calibers and still have money left over...
I agree with the cost. But. I want the right to be able to own one. And if I ever came into the money I would buy one for the collection I would have. Heck the scope can cost as much as the gun. Other than that yes you could buy several other guns for the price.
I am absolutely opposed to banning them, my point is banning them does nothing to lower gun violence it’s a chipping away at 2A.....
Today it’s 50 caliber, next it will be 308 or 30-06 or shotgun slugs...
It’s a tactic, propose something that you know won’t work, when it surely fails, proposed addition banning of guns and ammunition now that the public has already been conditioned to accept the banning of 50 caliber.
I don’t have a 50, but I run as big as 338 Lapua. And its not part of a collection. It’s a working piece. It is a drive to places where you can put it to work, but hitting a 9 inch pie plate from 1000 yards on a cold bore shot is most satisfying.
If I could afford a 50, I’d be looking for 2000 yard ranges.
Ohhh yeah. Love long shots. Would love to have a 50 cal. My bosses nephew was a army sniper and has a 50. He lives in KY. My boss went to visit and they were taking shots at a mile. Got to feel awesome. He said the optics cost as much as the gun.
I agree with what your saying. One thing turns into another.
High capacity mag bans are a joke! I can fire 15 rounds in about 3 seconds from a holster draw. I can fire 20 from a holster draw with magazine change in 3.5 seconds using two 10 round magazines. If I am being more careful with my aiming add a second to each.
Because the 2A says you can.
If you choose not too that's fine.
Keep reading my comments and you will see that I agree with you...
Demonicrat leaders can’t even control their own bowel movements.
“Did you really think we want those laws observed?" said Dr. Ferris. "We want them to be broken. You'd better get it straight that it's not a bunch of boy scouts you're up against... We're after power and we mean it... There's no way to rule innocent men. The only power any government has is the power to crack down on criminals. Well, when there aren't enough criminals one makes them. One declares so many things to be a crime that it becomes impossible for men to live without breaking laws. Who wants a nation of law-abiding citizens? What's there in that for anyone? But just pass the kind of laws that can neither be observed nor enforced or objectively interpreted – and you create a nation of law-breakers – and then you cash in on guilt. Now that's the system, Mr. Reardon, that's the game, and once you understand it, you'll be much easier to deal with.”

Anyone remember “Saturday Night Specials” propaganda from the 70’s?
Getting rid of cheap handguns was supposed to eliminate gun murder.
Fake News has been with us since the 50’s
