A Narrative Collapse in Chauvin Trial
American Greatness ^ | April 4, 2021 | Christopher Roach

...Observers following the trial closely have described most of the prosecution witnesses and evidence as middling at best. Some of the eyewitnesses who cajoled the police were less than impressive on the stand, several being admonished by the judge for giving evasive answers. One older black gentleman urged Floyd to stop resisting arrest, which provides some context for the police behavior. And, in the biggest surprise, while we were told George was crying for his mama as he lay dying on the street, it turns out his drug addict girlfriend was saved in his phone as “Mama.” She also revealed Floyd had dealt drugs, had a similar overdose only months earlier, and recently relapsed.

The media has mostly downplayed these details.

One serious problem with the media is that it is so used to packaging news into ideological narratives that the general public has no idea really what’s happening. It’s not just a question of slant or editorializing; the facts are concealed, revealed, or even made up as necessary to support a message.

This is true in this case and in many others. While the availability of raw data and some exposure to original sources alleviates this, most people do not have the time, energy, or inclination to dig into every fishy story. And certain people are particularly credulous, especially when believing the narrative accrues social approval.

For the Chauvin trial, mainstream media reports have uniformly emphasized the prosecution scoring points. Floyd’s drug use and violent activities have been given short shrift. Prosecution missteps—the “mama” incident, the defiant female firefighter at the scene, the MMA expert who apparently did not know how a “blood choke” works in jujitsu—have not helped the prosecution’s case...

Probably a conviction on some form of 3rd Degree Manslaughter, probably the one re “reckless endangerment”. He should go to jail for being a hardnosed prick.

Something to think about. If the cops that responded were little girly/women 110# cops with nice fingernails they would have shot that huge moose of a dude dead on the spot when he was resisting arrest.

I predict a hung jury. Mistrial.

I do not believe the venue of the death of George Floyd is particularly relevant, rather the cause of his death, wherever it occurred, should be dispositive.

Was George Floyd a dead man walking as the autopsy described or was he asphyxiated by the defendant? Will the jury dismiss the autopsy and the expert who testifies on behalf of the defendant on the cause of death or will it believe the evidence of its own eyes and convict on the basis of the video?

Whichever way the jury goes, it must in law find that the defendant caused the death. I believe a rational jury would find a reasonable doubt but it is a fool's game to project one's own perception onto those who sit in the box. Yet, a hung jury takes but one stubborn peer to judge.

I haven’t watched the trial I’m only speaking hypothetically. I did poke around a bit on the innerwebs and although the two autopsy reports I saw ruled it a “homocide” the facts cited in those reports don’t seem to bear it out. It looks like George Floyd died of a heart attack some time after the incident with Chauvin. They say that Chauvin’s actions contributed to the heart attack, but so did fentanyl, his lung condition (if I read that right). I’m not seeing anything like direct causation. IMHO, it goes without saying.

I agree the big issue here is causation. From what I’ve seen it’s anything but a slam dunk for the prosecution.

“ I hope the Jury votes to Burn Minneapolis to the ground, it would be a fair verdict.”

They will burn it down no matter the verdict!
