Comarable to a stunt like 9-11, an Iranian sponsored group could commandeer a ship and wedge it likewise, perhaps even scuttling the ship once in place, making a more permanent blockage.
As such, governments should consider absolving crews of liability for killing pirates in action. I believe right now, due to insurance liability issues, crews aren’t supposed to carry guns to defend themselves against marauders. They’re just supposed to do as they’re told by their captors.
All part of the anti-gun mentality of the corporate world.

I think the block is on purpose to hike oil prices. I have my doubts. The really big oil tankers can't transit the Suez Canal reasonably safely and have to travel around the Cape of Good Hope to reach Europe from the Middle East.
