I do not see why they are upset. Texas is not outlawing mask. They can wear a mask if they want too, it is a free country.
If you are sick with a bad heath condition like being treated for Cancer, you should wear a mask.

When a conservative believes something is wrong, he doesn’t engage in it.
When a liberal believes something is wrong, he demands it be banned by the government, and penalties for those who don’t comply.
Because they’ve been told, “My mask protects you, your mask protects me.” Which is perfect for them because it justifies forcing others to wear masks.
You’re being far too logical. I have acquaintances who are incensed over this. When I tell them it’s their choice to wear a mask, they get irate and I get “everyone should”, but if the mask protects you, why should I worry if I’m not?
You should never wear a mask unless you’re operating on someone and don’t want saliva to drop into your patient.
No problem with properly maintained filters and masks.
Masks are not “screens.”
When I have to wear a mask, I wear 2 of them. A less-efficient mask is the outer setup - a bug catcher, I call it. I can toss it and grab another . . . thus a bit of protection for the inner, N-95 mask.
I reset these masks, by either leaving them in the sunlight, or a method that includes Hydrogen Peroxide - a process described by Battelle Labs and a Duke Univ. medical center. (You might call it a Hydrogen Peroxide vapor “bath” - at 160 deg F in the oven for 1 hour.)
Masks have levels of efficiency, not absolute “protection.”
Same for the air filter for your vehicle’s internal combustion engine.
In such a filter, the actual mechanical working, is that the air flow changes direction, multiple times -— and objects that fail to make that change of direction, are nabbed by filter elements/fibers.
Some such filters include chemical compounds in order to enhance that trapping of objects.
People who do not believe this, may as well go out and yank the air filter(s) from their vehicle engine compartment(s).
Yet, with the virus, the object of the mask excercise is to reduce viral loading.
Such masks - many - are not perfect. Neither are so many other mechanical and technical things.
But overall, we try to take the edge off the rate of infection, and off viral loading.
