Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Director Rochelle Walensky on Monday warned states against lifting coronavirus restrictions, pointing to the threat of variants and the "stalling" of recent declines in new cases.
"Our recent declines appear to be stalling, stalling at over 70,000 cases a day," Walensky said at a White House press briefing.
"With these new statistics, I am really worried about reports that more states are rolling back the exact public health measures we have recommended to protect people from COVID-19," she added.
New cases had declined for weeks, from as much as 250,000 per day in January to around 70,000 per day currently. But the declines have leveled off and are now even showing signs of ticking back up. Even 70,000 cases per day is an extremely high level, above the peak of last summer.
At the same time, a range of states have recently been easing restrictions. Massachusetts, for example, is lifting all capacity limits on restaurants this week and reopening concert halls at 50 percent capacity. Iowa and Montana also recently lifted statewide mask mandates, and the Texas governor said he is considering such a move.
And the rise of more contagious variants adds to the risk of a new spike as states ease up. The more infectious variant first found in the United Kingdom has risen to be about 10 percent of cases in the U.S., according to the CDC, up from 1 percent to 4 percent a few weeks ago.
"At this level of cases with variants spreading, we stand to completely lose the hard earned ground we have gained," Walensky said on Monday. "These variants are a very real threat to our people and our progress....

This has to stop. People need to just ignore it and start living their lives. If 60% have achieved herd immunity and some never even got it, it’s time to stop letting them control us with “new variants” which may or may not happen or may even be inconsequential due to similarly of spike protein.
If we roll over ever time that a new bio weapon is unleashed, we might as well be dead anyway.
They need to start telling the TRUTH about how this happened and why they are using it to control people.
That is the topic I want to hear the illegal regime discuss.
If they can’t do that, then they can take their warnings, masks, and covid rules and shove them.

Deaths and hospitalizations are the key statistics and they are way down.
Plus, after a year of this nonsense it seems clear the lockdown and mask measures have had little if any impact on the statistics. The worst numbers are in the hardest lockdown states. Remember when these assclowns confidently predicted that Texas and Florida were going to be huge hotspots and overtake NY and Cali for deaths and hospitalizations? Never happened. Real "scientists" look at real data. These people are nothing more than bureaucrats with degrees.
But, but, the CDC is recommending opening all schools before teachers are vaccinated.

Maybe the RNA vaccine, since it mimics the virus - will end up causing more positives. We won’t know until the experiment is over in a year or two. Whatever the cause is, this is exhausting.
Hmm. Interesting. Never thought of that.
But why do people who have been vaccinated have to get Covid tests?
And are still testing with PRC tests at 40 cycles of amplification, or whatever the right terminology is?
Thought is not original with me. But is something to consider. Fearful people will continue to get tests even after being vaccinated - especially if there are ‘variant strains’. The idea that the vaccinated could test positive may be totally false.
I agree with you about the hypochondriacs getting tested.
But isn’t one lie, er thing, they are telling us about that vax that it will not prevent you from getting Covid but will prevent you from getting much more than sniffles with it.
So, people getting the fax should not fear getting a case of it.
So many people are so messed up in the head. We are so doomed.
Social gravity and my cynicism is pulling me towards ‘we are doomed’ as well. Exercising my creaturely will to be intentionally hopeful.
