Why wouldn't you recommend a semi-automatic shotgun? You would think that a home invader, running around the room and throwing things at you might cause you to miss. A quick pull of the trigger for the second shot would be more likely to get them.
In a dark room, ear plugs will prevent you from hearing where they are moving around in a dark room. You surly don’t want to take the time to turn on the lights. The solution is a noise suppressor.
Any that are zeroed for RINOS
It is a common misconception that you can’t miss with a shotgun.
You can.
Anyone who has ever shot trap or skeet knows better.
Even a 12 gauge REM 870 tactical with its shortest legal barrel of 18.5 inches and 00 Buckshot will only spread a pattern more than a foot diameter at about or beyond 40 feet.
And gets much tighter proportionally at closer ranges you would have indoors.
OTOH, a Taurus Judge with a .410 birdshot will have very wide pattern in a relatively short distance.
A suppressor might be what you need to prevent anyone from knowing what happened. (Shoot, Shovel, Shut up) Perp may have friends who you don't want to be introduced to.
Mossberg 500.
Great pump shotgun.
Many Reasons,
My Favorite is that
A Shotgun is probably
The Biggest Hole
Maker on the Scene and
“Racking” a Round in
Chamber is a very Effective
Deterrent all by itself.
It says “Let’s Rock!”
The Free Republic Boating Club is huge, but we’re all heartbroken from the loss of our collections. It takes time to get past the tears and post.
I have a 5 shot pump 12 gauge. The first round is 04 shot. The second round is double ought. The rest are slugs. If you get through that “say hello to my little friend.”
I like silencers. I shoot most of my practice with one. That used to be 200-300 rounds per day (and yes, I know exactly what that costs even with a significant fraction of it .22lr), but more than half those shots are now air pistol/rifle to conserve ammo. It’s a lot easier on the ears and the nerves to shoot at -30 dB relative to un-silenced.
That would be DOCTOR Jill Biden to you and the rest of us Deplorables.
And a 410 gauge pistol. Some shoot all of the 410 shotgun ammo plus 45 long colt.
With a short barrel. It’s not like you’re duck hunting.
I have a Viridian C5L on my automatic. When I pull from my holster, I have it set to start a flashing green laser rather than the strobing tac light. The laser tac light in the eyes of an intruder will blind him. The laser has been sighted in to about a 25-35 ft distance with a site mark bore sighting tool. The automatic has high capacity mags.
Due to my handicaps, I can’t make it to a range, but I have practiced firing with dummy rounds which requires racking for each “round”.
The automatic would be my go to gun unless the intruder was a black bear. Then I would use a 357 or a 44 magnum (if I could get it out of its more secure location in time). The black bear possibility is very real. I’ve had a huge female (possibly 7-8 ft tall based on print size) venturing though my yards at night over the past year with her fat cub and knocking over dumpsters.
I can also hear moderately loud noises though ear plugs.
There is the real possibility of using 38 special in a 357....
The Remington Tac 14 and the Mossberg Shockwave are excellent home defense weapons in either 12 or 20 gauge. Both are short and compact, easily maneuverable in tight quarters, exceptionally powerful, and based on reliable pump actions with legendary reputations for superior performance. Getting them is the problem, everyone wants one.
Mosin Nagant with fixed bayonet. You can shoot them from 1,000 yds away before they get close and if you run out of ammo you can stick them from across the street before they get to the door, or just stick them through the door before they break it down. The Wife will like one too.
My old man used to keep a loaded 38 S&W Police near him all the time. He was over 80 and still a very good shot. Still-he was over 80 and I made sure to call when I was coming, especially at night:)
Mossberg 500 tactical.
Agreed. Adrenaline takes over and you become extremely focused on survival. You can do things in a combat situation you wouldn’t think of doing otherwise.
