I’m willing, we just need a list of viable options that don’t suck rocks, eliminate most our choices or send us back to the pre-information technology age, like, er, books and HAM radio for entertainment/communications.
I buy a lot of textbooks/ reference books for my field (game programming and design), I prefer hard bound books. Several hundred $ a pop. Kindle versions: $20 to $30. Another area Amazon has an absolute monopoly. PDFs don’t work as publishers know they will end up pirated in China or India they day they are released.
Why wait? Do it now. This is embarrassingly didactic by the way.

For Digital Rights Management reasons, all Kindle e-books are locked to Kindle hardware. These digital books use Amazon’s proprietary AZW file format, even though Kindle tablets also support MOBI files. That makes reading these e-books outside the Kindle bubble nearly impossible.

If Indians and Communist Chinese wouldn’t steal our IP, PDFs would be the way to go. I remember hundreds to a thousand for textbooks every semester as an undergraduate/ graduate student (and hundreds as a faculty member- although reimbursed).
Indians and Communist Chinese just photocopy and redistribute them. Or scan into pdf.
However, I can't figure out how to even download them. I paid for it, I should be able to download them.

Will be tough living back in the ‘70s pre-computer, pre-steaming, pre-media, pre-cable/ satellite, especially for me who produces game content for media.
But I’ll manage.
Have about 1000 books but I hate effing reading - do reading and research as part of my job, reading for relaxation simply bores me to death. Dislike the so-called Hollywood classics especially westerns and period dramas. Don’t know what you all see in them. Snooze fests. I’m a sci-fi guy, always has been, always will. I read all the classics - for research purposes.
