The change from Muslim terrorists to white neo-nazis in “The Sum of All Fears” movie script was approved by Tom Clancy, who, IIRC, was also the executive producer.
I NEVER watched the movie version of “Sum of all Fears” because of that taking out the PLO. Plus they had Ben Aflack play Jack Ryan.
Of course, in “Clear and Present Danger” I did not care for the actor’s portrayal of former Navy Seal John Clark.
Kind of like Tom Cruise playing 6’ 4” 250 lb Jack Reacher in the movies.
Yes, I realized my mistake after I posted. I had no idea that Clancy was the producer and consented to such a cowardly adjustment. It is disappointing to say the least.
Yeah...or how about Alec Baldwin (barf) as the first Jack Ryan in “The Hunt For Red October”. Sean Connery was awesome in that movie though!

Didn’t read the book, but the movie was awful. Fast forwarded through most of it.
Several people I know read & really liked it & suggested I read it. I tried, but lost interest about 30 or 40 pages in. I picked it up again a few months later & didn’t get much further.
It is insulting and condescending, but the Hollywood elites are incredibly tone-deaf when it comes to their own ‘wokeness’ and politically correct dogma. Like Ted Nugent said, let yourself be called a shitkicker, because shitkickers are who built this country. Call me a hillbilly, I’ll wear it like a badge of honor. I’m proud of where I was born.
I watched it the other night. The only good thing I will say about it is that the acting was so good that it made Any Adams unattractive. And she is a pretty woman. So, is that good?

I also read the book several years ago. I had no idea they made a movie adaption. My parents took the hillbilly highway to Ohio from south western WV. I get it. I now teach at a high school in the same town my parents were raised. I’m a proud Appalachian... and I have lived elsewhere most of my life. I’d put my students up against any student in this country. They are smart, resilient and well equipped for the battles ahead. I’m hunkering down here in the hills with my tribe!
American Hustle far better movie.
I watched a decent chunk of it on Netflix. It’s a mess, yet has some powerful scenes in it (good actors).

It was mediocre. I think the criticism of it here fits well.
