Rush Limbaugh was saying some months ago that the American Left wants to put a stop to all elections.
Could this all be about getting rid of the vote altogether?
An analogy: Is the Papacy of Pope Francis so extreme that the Catholics will revert back to a more-nearly BVI or JPII papacy? But will it even matter, at all? The sloppiness of Francis' pronouncements are so extreme, the real goal could have been delegimization of the Papacy as an institution.
Both the St. Gallen Mafia and the American Democrats are intellectually sloppy to an extreme. But the greedy oligarch billionaires who control the Americans, and interface to some degree with the Francis Papacy, are no dummies.

I suspect this is the real reason. The real reason for delegitimizing the election is to take away the administration of the election by the states.
The tenth amendment is hated by liberals, because it prevents the federal government from becoming all powerful, which is how socialism gets implemented.

Of course, it’s always been a tactic to de-legitimize our elections. Seems like the CIA has been practicing on election fraud in some of these central/south americans nations (and probably elsewhere) for years.
Partner, the Constitution says we must have elections but this one is one big steal and fraud.
